I had that feeling when I played Thief 2, HR and Dishonored 1. I'm very glad I sticked with them until the end, though - they became some of my favorite games. I only started appreciating Dis 1 after I got to the Flooded District, and later began loving the whole game.

Dishonored 1 was one of those games that I spent every free moment I could scrounge up playing until I had finished it (much to my wife's frustration) and then immediately started a second playthrough. Same with Human Revolution. I hadn't gotten sucked into a game like that since HL2 and I haven't since. I certainly like and appreciate Dishonored 2, at least so far, but I don't feel that same urge to jump on the computer every chance I get. At the rate I'm going I may not get around to finishing before New Years.

In non-sandbox games I have this need to explore every area relatively thoroughly (I don't care about missing coins or whatever, though) and DXMD and DH2 are designed in a way where I really should be picking a route and sticking to it instead of going nuts poking in every corner. I'm not sure when I started doing this, because I don't think I was nearly so anal about exploring when I played the original DX. Anyway, I'm enjoying DH2 but not "wtf, 13 hours to get to the third level" enjoying it.

And still crashing on patch 1.4. This is fucking bullshit.

I'm almost at the end of the game. Gotta say it reminds me a bit of Dark Souls 3 (or Thief 2, actually) in that it's both too similar to the first game, and yet it feels like the game lacks something (a third act, for instance, or more interesting NPCs). And yeah, nothing really happens in the story, and a lot of the dialogue is laughable and cartoonish - Billie/Megan talking about her past right before the Grand Palace level is probably the most cringe-worthy one I've heard in the game. Luca Abele ("This is more exciting than any orgy I've ever attended!" lol) and Delilah are shitty villains BTW.. It's also kind of weird, because the writing in all the lore-related stuff like books and documents the player finds are nicely written (apart from Emily's diary, ugh). Learning more about the Outsider was also great.
It's still a great game and a worthy successor to Dis 1 and the LGS games .

I'm about a third of the way in now, just finished the Addermire Institute level. This game is pretty much awesome, a Thief fan's wet dream for sure (the Stephen Russell VOs only add to that). Thank god for Arkane, no one is making games like this these days. I'm pretty much playing like JM mentioned above, taking my time, and trying to investigate every single nook and cranny of every level, finding all bone charms and runes. I'm probably spending 3-5 hours per level, which sounds excessive, but I'm enjoying taking my time and savoring my first play through. There's nothing like the exploring a new level you've never encountered before. I still get that cool sense of accomplishment and amazement when I've climbed to the top of an rooftop that I never thought I could reach.
I'm playing no kills, and since I'm on hard difficulty, I die and/or reload a lot. I'm fine with that - if I get spotted, I usually just reload. Although lately, if I only have one AI coming at me, I'm having fun trying to take them down non-lethally with the block/stun/takedown move. It's great when it works. I also discovered the "drop down on someone's head and knock them out" routine, which is hilarious, especially when you do it to someone sleeping in a chair or just leaning against a railing on the street. I've limited my powers to only using Blink if I need to reach an area I couldn't otherwise get to.
So yeah, the game is pure genius so far, and I haven't even reached the levels everyone is talking about. And the cool thing is, I'm already looking forward to a 2nd play through, using Emily and powers and basically going on a killing spree. So essentially two games in 1 here. But for the moment, I can't remember the last time I had this much fun gaming. I'm hoping I don't hit the wall like some have mentioned here. It help too that I'm playing on PS4, so no technical issues. I've heard a lot of criticism of the story too, but so far it seems fine, or at least good enough to keep the game going.
The biggest bummer - I haven't heard any memorable guard lines yet. Minor point, but I'm sorry "Man, I have to pee" just isn't cutting it compared to Whiskey & Cigars. Hopefully it will get better.
Edit: Forgot one thing - I really don't like the new guy playing The Outsider, I want the original guy back. This dude reminds me of McLovin, and now I can't get that out of my head.

Brethren: how are the load times on PS4?
Renault on 19/12/2016 at 20:29
Maybe I've just gotten used to it, but they don't seem that bad. I'll time it tonight. I've been reloading a lot, so I'd think that would get old fast if it was excessive.

The funniest way I've found to take out a single guard non-lethally is to blink over their head then immediately do a non-lethal drop-takedown. I wish there were an upgrade like in DXHR/DXMD that let you take out 2 guards at once because that's pretty much how I'd play the entire game. Getting the rune as Corvo (I'm assuming it's easier with Emily) in the dining area of the Addemire Institute was hilarious without going lethal.
Edit: Progress-wise, I'm standing in the entryway to the Mansion. Given the glowing reviews the level's gotten, I've been setting it aside to do in one go.

I keep hearing a line that reminds me of Thief...something like "grumble grumble, they better bring me my lunch" or something similar. Also, I like that they'll do a "wasn't there supposed to be someone here" search if you take one of their buddies out.
