A light gem doesn't work with an art style like ours or the way the game is lit. (
https://twistedsifter.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/shaow-illusion-same-color-checkerboard-with-cylinder-3.jpg) There's so many cases where what the player sees in the game world conflicts with what the light gem tells them that it becomes hard to trust or understand. The lighting in the game isn't high contrast, so we'd be asking the player to understand the gameplay difference between being 56% lit and 65% lit.
When you also factor in the various NPC view cones and how distance contributes to visibility, it's so much conflicting information that it becomes almost useless to the player.
About the 8: I'm sure I've seen that show up in our bug database, but I couldn't tell you any more than that.

I finally bought it a few days ago. Can't say much about optimisation because my graphic's card's way below the recommended specs, but it's very playable, probably thanks to the latest patch (BTW did it come out of its beta phase?).
I'm loving the game itself! The level design is excellent. The gameplay's an improvement over Dishonored 1, and that one already felt like an amazing mix of Thief, Tenchu and Deus Ex. I feel very invested in the story and the lore. Reading all the books/letters etc. is, once again, a huge pleasure.

Sir Silk, what card do you have?
Severian_Silk on 27/11/2016 at 17:12
GTX 850m and it's a laptop. The game runs kinda like Dishonored 1 did on the PS3, and on medium settings at that, capped at 30fps. Watching the YouTube video that henke posted makes me feel jealous :P .
froghawk on 27/11/2016 at 17:22
Ah blast, still better than mine (laptop with 750m) :P
Malleus on 27/11/2016 at 19:11
"on medium settings at that, capped at 30fps"? The hell? That card is supposedly worse than mine (R7 260x) and I'm positively not hitting 30 fps, unless I look at a blank wall. I'm getting 15-25 most of the time, with everything on Very Low at 720p.
By the way, I tested DXMD on my card, and got stable 30fps with low settings (textures/LOD on medium + ambient occlusion) at 1080p. So either Dishonored is exceptionally badly optimized, or just doesn't like AMD...?
Severian_Silk on 27/11/2016 at 19:32
Froghawk -> guess we both need to upgrade :( .
Malleus -> I have barely any knowledge on computer hardware (and software for that matter), but I think most of the problems concerning Dishonored 2's optimisation were reported by AMD owners? This is just really too bad, because this game is just awesome GOTY material, and especially since Dishonored 1 was so well optimised when it came out. My laptop also runs Witcher 3 on high settings (but 720p) very smoothly, but that's a totally different engine of course.

As I understand it, that's often the case. Nvidia push harder to get optimised drivers out before major titles ship.
AMD often have better performance on their older cards compared to older Nvidia cards after they've both optimised the drivers, but it takes them a while to get there.
(Current-gen Nvidia is still more powerful than current-gen AMD right now, regardless. Not surprising since they're a much bigger company.)

@Severian_Silk: Yeah, I can play everything else quite smoothly with the right settings (including a few games where my card is below min spec, like DXMD), but D2 performs worse than any other. But it's still playable and enjoyable for me, and I love it! It's an amazing game, and I definitely agree it's GOTY material.

Wow, that makes me want to try DXMD. I was worried it'd be unplayable on my computer, but it might work after all. As for Dis 2, well, let's hope they continue to optimise it :( . Witcher 3 also didn't work that great for me at launch.
Just got to Addermire. Jesus, if in some alternate universe there's a Thief: Dark Project remake coming out, I hope it's Arkane that's making it!
Alexandria Hypatia is also a very funny name/reference.
