Well, they definitely need another Chris Avellone for Arkane in Europe then. ;)
Perhaps Digi should also work on a story for the next Dishonored? :)

Sokolov is a particularly troublesome character in DH1. When you first meet him, he's in the process of killing one of his lab subjects with his medical experiments. By the end of the game, he's somehow become one of the good guys, teaming up with Pierro to save the world through science or whatever, nevermind the fact that he's done many evil things and Pierro's not such a great guy either. Come to think of it, Dishonored has the largest cast of unlikable characters of any game I can think of.

Wow, that's harsh. And not even a mention of Stilton Manor...
Not a big jim sterling fan myself.
From what I've heard about him in general he sounds like an awful person.
As far as story telling, its definitely important, but I dont need too much of it. I'm not reading a book. Just enough to flesh out an immersive world and let the gameplay and my imagination do the rest.
Sometimes when people get too caught up trying push a story like they're steven speilberg, it just comes off gratingly pretentious, like steven speilberg.
Like last of us.

To be fair, Arkane's storytelling HAS gotten a lot better. Anyone remember how offensively terrible the writing in Dark Messiah was?
At the time, that was a game with terrible writing and super fun gameplay mechanics. Both the writing and mechanics in Dishonored are a huge step up from that.

Interesting, what makes you think that?
I don't read his website but enjoy his youtube show. I agree with a lot of his points about the game industry. He does have a strong and specific "holier than thou" attitude that I see why many might find off putting. But I always took it as tongue in cheek satire of typical ego celebrities or entitled gamers. I'm quite sarcastic myself and interpreted it as such.

Apart from the dialogue (especially Xana and Leanna) often being cringe-worthy, I don't remember the writing in Dark Messiah being that terrible?
I'd more describe it as... lacking. It was functional, but not very heavily developed. There wasn't all that much writing / story in the game in general.

It just seemed to rely heavily on some of the worst fantasy tropes from what I recall, especially in how the women were portrayed. And the plot itself was so thin it may as well not have even been there.
Yakoob, I HIGHLY doubt Sterling's persona is a sarcastic parody.

The over the top character he plays on his show Jimquisition was born out of early feedback and experimentation. The viewers liked the character concept, so he kept on piling on more stuff like the black gloves and abusing his assistant, etc. I don't think it was ever meant as a parody -- it was just something to make the show stand out.

And the missions would be about on par in the writing dept.

I dont know, he just kind of sounds like a smug mess who's got nothing to be smug about.
But I can be picky sometimes, thats one of my own flaws
A lot of people do enjoy him, so there must be something enjoyable about him.
