I dunno man, complaining about running a 2016 game at 3440x1440 on Ultra settings and "only" getting 40fps, it's just... hilarious to me. Times really have changed. (the stuttering does indeed seem noticeable though in videos I've seen, I hope they smooth that out)
It might be hilarious for you, but it's not hilarious for me and many other players that are complaining all over the internet. Why? Because it's not about 40 fps, it's about sudden drops that cause severe stuttering in certain areas. And we are talking about GTX 1080 here. It really does not matter much if you change settings from ULTRA to lower. It's the same. You might gain few (sic!) fps, but the problem remains. Here's an article about it:
(
http://www.pcgamer.com/why-dishonored-2-is-running-so-poorly/)
The game doesn't look
that good even on ULTRA, so it's hard to understand what's the problem here. Some much more demanding and much more good looking games (The Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Rider) are running great on my machine with every setting maxed out in native resolution(~60 fps and no stuttering at all). There must be some place for performance improvements in Dishonored 2. As I wrote earlier, I find it strange that in certain city areas that are heavily populated and quite open I am getting ~60 fps, while in the others that look the same - the game struggles to keep 40 fps. Literally, one can stand in one place, enjoy 60 fps view, and then turn the head around and just look at the other side of the same city square to get sudden drop to 40 fps and mouse stuttering for no obvious reason.
I also found some information about mouse implementation in Dishonored 2: its sensitivity is probably tied to fps. That is very strange and hard to understand.

One thing I do get that annoys the piss out of me is flashing white lights in inappropriate places
I've just arrived at Carnaca and there are many glitches here. Sometimes the water (and underwater areas) look like this:

the infested apartments. Unfortunately, Dishonored 2 was not properly tested on PC and it requires a patch in order to fully enjoy the game.

970s are old now?
I didn't say that :)
However, they're not bleeding edge any more either.

So, just started playing this, it's great so far (I'm only in the first full mission though). Quick question, maybe I should just wait and see what happens, but.... I picked Corvo, and in the initial scene he loses his mark and now has no supernatural powers. Will I get another opportunity to receive the Outsider's mark? I know you can play the game without powers, but I don't ever remember being asked if I wanted to or not.
Btw, not to rub it in all the PC players faces, but the game looks and plays great on the PS4 Pro, on my 4K TV.
Edit: Spoilers

40fps is bad now? 970s are old now? Man I am behind the times.
Tell me about it :/ with the performance issue I don't know I could even run it on low settings (GTX 560 Ti and 550m on laptop)
froghawk on 17/11/2016 at 01:14
Yeah, really wishing I had the money for a new PC right about now, but that isnt in the cards anytime soon.
Brethren, from what I've read only Emily can choose not to receive the mark.
Renault on 17/11/2016 at 06:50
Nah, not true, I got to The Void tonight, and as Corvo I definitely had the option to choose either way.
Digital Nightfall on 17/11/2016 at 07:22
No-powers Corvo on Very Hard is one of my favorite ways to play. :)
Also, something I call "heroic non-lethal," where you're not stealthy but still don't kill (unless it's an accident). With all of the new non-lethal options it's a thrilling way to play.

The clockwork mansion feels like the sort of level people will be writing entire theses about,
Thank you. :D

I hope Digi and the team are aware of PC problems and working on a fix.
Yes, the patch is coming soon.

Is there any possibility of Arkane bringing in the programming bods at id to consult on a performance patch Digi?
One page of the game's credits is dedicated to id software programmers. They were a huge help during development and continue to be, as well as being great guys.

Hey, Digi! While you're sortakinda here, see if you can put in a good word, and get them to implement being able to skip through the splash screens for the next patch.

I have just visited the clockwork mansion... And I think it is the greatest achievement in level design ever. Just... WOW. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
Digi, can you tell us who was the main designer (genius) of this level?
I can't wait to see what's next.

Yes, that would be great. Can we also get some estimated date of patch release? This week? Next?

Aha, thought that might be the case. They've always been good about sharing the love; they maintained a pretty constant developer presence on Quake3World back in the day.
Haven't quite had the credits roll yet myself; I'm on the very last bit at the moment, but had to turn it off after multiple attempts as it was getting way past my bed-time!
Technical question: I've installed the game on to SSD, but I've noticed a peculiar pattern when loading the game for the first time on a day-to-day basis. One day, the game will take an age to progress the orange load bar on the Corvo/Emily portrait screen, but the next it'll load incredibly quickly. This seems to alternate on a daily basis. For example, last night it took ages to load, but the night before, it took seconds. I'm predicting that tonight, it'll take seconds. Is this related to DRM by any chance?
I shut down my machine when not using it, so I'm postulating that the game needs to re-authorise my install or something. Either that or it's building a shader cache that for some reason isn't permanent.
