Recently, I was chatting with my brother at work via email where he was lamenting the fact that he hates his job and was trying to pin down exactly why this was so. I think he made a rather interesting observation:
"If you’re creative enough to visualize ideality, and if you’re observant enough to detect almost every nuance of reality, then the discrepancies between the two are a constant assault on your mental wellness. I think that intelligence actually contributes to depression. A heightened awareness of the differences between actual and ideal is, to a certain degree, maddening."
I guess it doesn't help either if your job doesn't involve using your intelligence in any way. I was already unhappy in my job before all the crap that made me quit, shopwork not being much of a challenge to anything except your legs. I have been told I think to much though.

Hi there!
Well it certainly sounds like you're a bit of a morose fucker! Perhaps it's something you can snap out of, if you make an effort. But then again perhaps it's a deeper problem and you need outside help.
Something you can try is getting yourself into a hard exercise regime with the goal of packing on some muscle mass and to get better cardio fitness. Most people feel an increase in energy and well-being when they exercise, yet they usually stop doing it after a month, presumably because it cuts into their precious sitting around and sighing time. Eating a large amount of quality food and getting an exhilarating sweat on a bunch of times a week will do you a lot of good. And at the very least it will give you something to focus on, other than your perceived misery, and will give you the feeling that you have actually done something with your day.
Seeing a healthy looking beefhead in the mirror is good for the self esteem.
hut hut hut hut hut htu hut!
ON THE flipside
It's quite possible that there is something wrong with you. Best thing you can do is fire up on introspection, and over time, make a clear concise list of the symptoms you are having. Include every tiny detail you can imagine. Things that you think are irrelevant or petty might conclude a successful diagnosis with something. ie stuff like an elevated resting heart rate, or dry skin, or sleep trouble or feeling breathless, feeling cold, localised aches and pains, etc etc. If you Just go into el quacko's office, and say you're a bit tired and down is not especially helpful to the doctor. It could be anything. Although to be honest, I'd recommend anyone with apparent debilitating fatigue and depression gets a complete thyroid panel blood test. If you do see a doctor and do get blood tests run, make sure you get a copy of the results for yourself and look into things if need be.
I hope this nonsense is of some use.

Good idea. Also, if you wake up with a headache it is probably meningitis. Best to check in at an Accident and Emergency ward straight away for a comprehensive set of tests.

Capitan sensitive to the rescue :erg:
I agree with the first part though, nothing makes me feel better than exercise, although if you're sure that your health is failing, Im not sure if that would just cause you to think more about it or help, worth a try though (if he hasnt, cause I wouldnt know).
Good luck all the same sypha.

..lol, fair enough. I shouldn't have given specific medical advice. It's a pretty sour point for me so it occasionally pops out without too much thought. Much like the rest of it, I expect :) But it goes without saying, if you've been feeling sickly for a prolonged period of time, get yourself checked out.

I think the problem is more that he has been Sypha for a prolonged period of time.

I suggest volunteering at some organization that interests you. Do you like to be around horses? This organization and others like it need lots of help: (

Working with the handicap makes you realize how fortunant you are. And being around horses is just soothing to the soul. It may just help you deal with your anxieties about yourself by trying to make others feel better.
