Very sad. TBH I can't say that I liked his films though, aside from Ripley.
Quote:
Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella has died, his agent said Tuesday.
Agent Judy Daish confirmed the director's death but further details were not immediately available.
Minghella, who was 54, won an Oscar for directing "The English Patient," one of a series of literary adaptations that include "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Cold Mountain." He was recently in Botswana filming an adaptation of Alexander McCall Smith's novel "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency."

Anthony Minghella dead. Uwe Boll still alive. Proof that there is no God.
Thirith on 18/3/2008 at 17:30
Unless God thinks He'd rather spend more time with Minghella than with Boll...

This is fucking fucking horrible news.

Never really liked his movies that much, well not the big ones anyway. English Patient and Cold Mountain etc; too huge and Gone With the Wind-ish melodrama for my liking. He certainly wasn't bad though, not by any means. I liked his more intimate stuff like TMD and Mr Ripley.
What happened to the guy? No one seems to be saying yet.

Well he didn't poop all over Cold Mountain by giving it a Hollywood ending so I'm sorry to see him go. I really liked Cold Mountain, the movie, the place, but mostly the book.

I didn't recognize the man by name but Cold Mountain was a great film IMO. It's one of the few films my wife and I enjoy evenly even after watching it a few times, and one of the few romances that I can stomach.
