I doubt this is a "hints and spoilers" topic, but ill be overly cautious.
It seems that i have a much harder time killing enemies than other people.
My old boss and I bought oblivion together, both made wood elf bowmen, i was a thief and he was an assassin. I hit level 4, then did the arena, on average it took me about 20 arrows per fight to kill someone, if not more.
he was able to kill any of the fights with about 5-7 arrows, same bow, but he a level 2. We thought it was cause the fights were scaled to level. Or our class. I even had higher marksman though.
I started a new character. This one is a Dunmer assassin. While i love this new character to death, i have the same problem killing people. i started the arena at level 2, and i cant kill any of the fighters with less tahn about 15 arrows. Ive heard that Oblivion doesnt have targeted damage, but i shoot for the head anyways. Any ideas? Is it just that i suck? Or that he had some unequal abilities?
Edit: Im not complaining, i love the challenge, but some fights seem almost impossible..

Frankly, I had the EXACT same problem, though, its partly because I never held my bowstring very long, maybe thats why, your boss is charging up every shot, while you let loose every arrow right after you click, also, something that can make things a little easier is getting into a sneak position, then position yourself as far back as possible without losing view of the enemy, as soon as the cage opens, you fire and you just got a sneak attack for your first strike.

Yup , i will typically hold my bow back for about 3-5 seconds, unless they are smacking me around pretty badly. I try to do sneak attacks when possible, but that brings me to another point.
I mad ea fraps video of my guy level 8 ish in oblivion. Sneak atack x3 damage with the sniper zoon to a scamp. It was about 2/3 dead after that. He can one shot scamps from a sneak position. My bow was stronger even.. Daedric bow Vs his Stell Bow (i think).

I honestly have no idea what to tell you in that case........

yea, like i said, not a huge deal, but its kinda puzzling.. but i still stand firm in saying: Killing things is fun :ebil:

You are both playing on the same difficulty level, right? If your boss has turned it down than that would explain the difference...

well, as far as i know it was the same.. so i blame it on his super sexy AMD X2 440+ with Dual 7800GTX cards..

This is sad. I read it and discovered I instinctively did as prescribed...and still I simply fail to kill ANYTHING at the hardest difficulty, except for mudcrabs and rats, after fighting with which I'm bairly alive :( At times I just notice I'm too slow, though my strength level is rather huge and I do not walk full-stuffed... And speed is what I usually choose to rase after resting.... So maybe
Rylan is right about vcards - I own nVidia GeForce 6600 GT and it really shows.... :(
And playing at normal difficulty is much less satisfying...Feels like I cheat myself.

Endurance effects how much damage you do with your bow, doesn't it? Depending on your class, birthsign, and how you level up, your boss could have a major advantage over you in that area.
