I'm only playing Thief since around 2014 and wasn't there in the 90s, when people where used to less forgiving games.
Now I'm replaying Thief Gold and notice a lot of situations where you can get stuck. Example:

https://i.stack.imgur.com/hWBTO.pngOnce you jump down there and didn't open the sewer yet, you better have some rope arrows with you. If not, you're stuck, as the platform is too high to mantle onto, and you also can't climb the sewer because of the tilted wall above it.
Same with a puzzle in the earth mage tower, at the top there's a climbing puzzle with one or two pits to hopelessly get trapped in.
And it must have been even worse in the original Dark Project, where there was no fire shadow to give you endless arrows for the keeper entrance puzzle in THC. You could have sneaked and fought all your way up there, overwrite your old saves in the process, and then not been able to finish the mission because you didn't have fire arrows left.
Has something like this happened to you? Did you have to restart a mission because you were simply stuck?

Both of those areas you mentioned have rope arrows lying on the ground somewhere. So you can't actually get stuck unless you purposefully waste those rope arrows.

You can also jump/climb on the sewer doorway to the left and then back on the wooden platform where the thief guard is standing (well lying in this case).
