All the grade school and high school kids are out, servers got killed, no one can login anymore.. yup sounds like blizzard launch all right.
On a side note, it's crazy how good looking blizzard can make their games without requiring decent hardware; my x1800xt wasn't supported(waiting for gtx 660) so I have to use my i5-2500k HD3000, and it runs the game flawlessly at 1600x1200, with all eye candy on High except shadows. Cpu temp only risen 5 degree too, intel=worth every dollar.

Incidentally the HD GPUs in Intel processors is total bullshit and a waste of money. Even if by some miracle the PC doesn't have a dedicated GPU that's what mobo-integrated graphics are for. I've no idea why they put that in there, and why all the new transistors in Ivy Bridge are spent on that worthless crap instead of boosting the performance of the fucking CPU itself.
Anyway...
Diablo 3 is some kind of sick cult. I know of two people who said they didn't want to get the game but they did "Because it's Diablo 3". And I don't know that many people.

Yeah, servers are down. Which is awesome. It means the game is 100% inaccessible even for single player play. I expect this kind of thing from an MMO or a game with some sort of online content - but if I want to just play the damn game on my own, and all the files I need are on my own computer, why do I have to mess with a login server?
(Of course I wasn't playing on my own, BUT STILL.)
There are some arguments circulating that the game isn't meant to be single player, which I could probably understand if the game wasn't tuned to allow successful single player play. Or you know, at the very least the game could try to not hinge on Battle.net working, given that Blizzard can't keep a login server working for a whole day without urgent maintenance even in the World of Warcraft and the 7 years experience they've had with that.

The majority of people buying D3 are buying it to play single player. Unfortunately, the loudest people in the D3 community are the minority of dickheads who play multiplayer.
Hence you get Stockholm Syndrome on a massive scale, as the loudest and most obnoxious fuckers on the planet justify the abusive relationship they're in with Blizzard because "Always Online" is necessary to help prevent cheating / make the RMAH work / for PvP (which incidentally hasn't shipped as of yet).

Despite the shitty launch, I've been playing this all day. The game strangely picks up after the area that was in the beta. They start giving you enemies with special attacks that you have to avoid unless you want to take loads of damage. I've been very close to dieing a few times now. The Act 1 boss is very well put together. It has patterns and abilities you can exploit instead of D2's "hit it until it dies and potion spam" bosses. So yeah, enjoying it so far.

With all the talk of server lockouts, lag in a singleplayer game and server disconnections causing loss of progress in a singleplayer game, I am very glad that I chose not to buy this game. Maybe I'll get it in 6 months when all the issues are resolved or they move to a non-online requirement model for the game. Till then not interested.

ice - y'thin they'll drop the perm-online thingy anytime soon? (i.e. before Diablo IV rolls by, that is...heh).
:)

I haven't had any lag with singleplayer despite 200+ ping.
