As opposed to you, who works for Blizzard I presume?
Or are you one of those people who once made 1/4 of a game and now think themselves the Gods of Design?
Removing something that "just doesn't fit in"(nevermind the fact it did in previous two titles in the series) or "doesn't play well with other things"(same here) instead of making it fit in or play well with other things is just pure laziness. But do continue to spew your apologist BS.

Most often fixing something involves removing something that just doesn't fit in, or doesn't play well with other things.
It's just that the very THOUGHT that something isn't there anymore hurts in the mind of purists, or that complexity is always better.
But then again, by all means be an armchair designer Koki.

They tested both in depth, against eachother, and found the final result to be the most optimal one.
Diablo series have always been great, but some of the design choices weren't the best.

Perhaps the reason they need "always on" DRM is to support this persistent economy, complete with microtransactions.

Almost certainly.

Yet (
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/08/22/diablo-3-lead-designer-on-lack-of-offline-mode-the-game%E2%80%99s-not-really-being-played-right-if-it%E2%80%99s-not-online/) another article where Jay Wilson basically says that "you're doing it wrong" if you play offline and he doesn't want that to happen so it will be online only. Plus, that other arguement about how a majority of players will have internet, of course.
I have mixed feelings about this whole thing. On the one hand, he sounds like a fucking dick backing up his company's dick move, and on the other hand, I respect them for wanting to protect their product and offer players a legitimate way to trade.
But again, why can't there just be a seperate character that can't go online? Also, he mentions how people gravitate towards offline mode and that they'll miss out on the online content. Well duh, have you considered that they might not care about the online content Mr. Wilson?
