Torchlight is a boring, imbalanced mess with unsatisfying skills compared to Diablo 2. At least without some excessive modding, which I haven't tried.

There's a patch for diablo 2 that allows you to run higher tha 800x600 Koki.
@TTK12G3
I didn't say diablo 2 was better or should stop you from playing torchlight 2. I was merely stating that it's not Diablo, and if you're a diablo fan wanting diablo then it doesn't make sense to say "get torchlight 2." But if you like torchlight, how bout getting both at some point?

Speaking of which, I bought Torchlight on a steam sale a while ago and it finished downloading few days ago. Given I just spent a good week of non-stop writing and just finished the first complete draft of my master thesis, I think I deserve a wee bit of a break in form of some serious gaming! Hold your butts, TTLG, I'll be back with my oh so witty and completely necessary input on the Torchlight vs. Diablo debate :D
(in before Koki: "please don't")

And it doesn't work with 1.13.

Torchlight is Diablo without the bullshit. Diablo 2 is one of the worst games I've ever played, and there's no reason for anyone to be still playing it after 2003. Torchlight an imbalanced mess? Try playing Diablo 2, I fucking dare you.
Here's how Diablo 2 went for me:
Make it to the boss of chapter 2.
Hit him a few times.
Die horribly.
Respawn in town.
Fight my way back across the desert.
Make it to the boss of chapter 2.
Hit him a few times.
Die horribly.
Respawn in town.
Fight my way back across the desert.

That's because you suck, dohohoho.
No, but seriously, the mechanics in Torchlight are simply uninteresting and it all feels dull after a while. It's Diablo with cute graphics, only very diluted.
Playing the assassin in Diablo 2 is just awesome fun all the way. Yes, even now. I played it unmodded in February, got through normal. Good stuff.
edit: That said, I prefer Titan Quest. A replay is in order, I think.

There's your answer. It feels samey because Diablo is samey.
Translation: less bullshit.
Pemptus on 14/8/2011 at 18:34
Nope.
There are different kinds of samey. There's "it's shallow and boring and it tries to be the simpler version of the infinitely better game but oh hey why the hell have they added fishing?" samey, and there's the "yup, that's the nature of the game, but somehow it doesn't feel stale for a surprisingly long time" samey.
There are no more kinds of samey.
