I liked diablo I. Diablo 2 however lived in the shadow of the epic renaissance of the RPG genre by Black Isle / Bioware, and so it became an irrelevant relic of the era that killed RPGs. The only reason I am usually interested in blizzard's work these days is that it occasionally generates some fun fan-art.

Wow, Diablo 2 improved upon it's predecessor in almost every way possible, and never went backward. How can you love D 1 and hate D 2 so enthusiastically?
Digital Nightfall on 27/6/2008 at 18:38
Because D1 existed in a void. By the time I played D2, I had played many of the Black Isle / Bioware RPGs, and that's like trying to play Doom 2 after playing System Shock.
Also, I never said I loved diablo 1, nor that I hated diablo 2. It was an amusing and then forgettable game. Of diablo 2 I simply had no interest. The only enthusiasm I show are towards the BI/Bio games. THOSE I love.

Well, the only part of Diablo 2 which was actually on the Diablo level(Story, NPCs, quests, atmosphere, etc.) was Act 3(Many will disagree). The rest was so uninspired it was just boring, especially Act 4. LoD brought back some of the love too I guess.
Then there are the mechanics. Diablo was pretty much classless. Classless > classes.

Diablo 2 fucking sucked. Can't save anywhere, predetermined classes are stupid, corpse runs are irritating as shit. Only thing it had going for it was the music.
Also fuck act 3 hardcore. And the act 2 boss.

I would have enjoyed Diablo II, except for the stupid save system that resulted in me playing the same fricken areas over and over and over again.

At least that's something that's probably fixable by now. VirtualPC/VMWare/etc? ;)

World of Lost Vikings, imo

I still play Diablo 2 from time to time all these years later.
Though it doesn't compete well with the Black Isle games of roughly the same era, it's digital crack fo' sho'.
..and none of those countless clones could hold the candle, not even Divine Divinity, Sacred or Titan Quest, which were about the best efforts.

I hardly think that Divine Divinity was a Diablo clone chief. It's more of an Ultima clone if anything.
