Keep crying, froghawk. "Boring and ineffectual" isn't an overgeneralization, though it's certainly dismissive. But that's besides the point. The point is, which obviously I have to explain again because TTLG's a fucking echo chamber for some people, is that some people are really, really invested in maintaining their elitist cred and will dismiss almost anything out of hand for any reason, because it's not exactly like Thief/Fallout/Deus Ex/whatever. See: jtr7. These people are boring and bring nothing to the table because they're just saying the same damn thing over and over. See: lost_soul, who everyone stopped listening to ages ago, yet he keeps on going.
So when I slam you for saying "mindless gameplay" I'm saying you sound like one of those losers, of which you are one, complaining simply because, what, Diablo doesn't have 900 pages of dialogue and you can't lean? I don't know what your problem is, but your whole complaint reads like that terrible thread last year about 'not liking games that play like games.'
Seriously, nobody cares. Try bashing games for things that matter, not because they don't hew to your overly-specific standards.
By the way, DXHR spoiler: You'll hate it.
froghawk on 6/8/2011 at 00:25
Regarding DXHR: Already played the press demo and loved it, so you're wrong.
I'm not bashing the Diablo games for any nitpicky reasons, but simply because they haven't been able to hold my attention since middle school and make me feel braindead when I attempt to play them. That matters. Games are meant to entertain, and to me, the Diablo series doesn't. It's that simple. It has nothing to do with elitist cred since I don't give a fuck about the gaming community - it's just a matter of taste. You don't like it? You're the one crying, as if I'm attacking you because I'm attacking a game. Chill out, man. No one is attacking you. Quit being defensive over nothing.
And yes, boring and ineffectual IS an overgeneralization. To say their contribution to the discussion fits those criteria is one thing, but to say that about them as people is bullshit. Everyone is more of a dick on the internet, myself included. If I were to judge any of you based on your message board posts, I'd assume you're all total assholes - but you probably aren't.

...In todays news, some ttlgers get into a fight over some Blizzard games that one person likes and the other doesn't. Tune in tommorrow for more asshatery and shenanigans.;)

I definitely agree that Diablo is boring.
june gloom on 6/8/2011 at 07:06
I don't even like Diablo all that much myself. The first one was fun but nothing I'd play again, and I hated the 2nd one.
I just hate the typical TTLG snobbery even more.
icemann on 6/8/2011 at 15:13
For me I loved the first one (clocked it around 6 times I think) and whilst the 2nd game was definitely quite good I just didn't get into as much as the 1st one, something was missing. And whilst I bought the expansion for D2 I've yet to play again to see how that panned out, so really need to play that again.
I recall dying a hundred times to Diablo in D2 due to going a necromancer and putting most of my points into improving my undead and golems so that probably had something to do with it.
And not all of us are snobs deth. Some definitely, but not everyone.
I find that alot of people treat games like they do with music. You have some that will just like one/a few types and will absolutely not even give other types a chance, while others are more open minded (the same applies to the platforms people will play games on, which I'll admit I'm guilty of as well as I'd not touch an xbox console with a 10 foot pole on principle).

very good analogy. For me, I am a musician, music is what I spend 90% of my time on, and absolutely no form of music is off limits - I listen to everything. On the other hand, I almost never play games any more since I feel the need to spend time on things that yield tangible results, so I'm exclusively a pc gamer and really only play RPGs (usually first person) and the occasional survival horror or RTS title, since it's just not what I'm into. It's not elitism in the least, just taste. Other people prefer to spend their time on games instead of music, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just what you're into and what turns you on.

Ugh, I know what you mean. I built a summonmancer on my most recent playthrough, and that fire wave attack Diablo has kills all my minions in one hit every damn time. Being a summonmancer, I couldn't defend myself properly with my army gone. :(

TP, waypoint to a field, rebuild your army, waypoint back, TP back.
