So you're depriving yourself of a game you wanted to get for ideological reasons that won't ever make a difference?

Diablo 3 was a must buy for me. After hearing about it being online only and no mods allowed. Thats just plain stupid.
RPS Blizzard Quote: "“One of the things that we felt was really important was that if you did play offline, if we allowed for that experience, you'd start a character, you'd get him all the way to level 20 or level 30 or level 40 or what have you, and then at that point you might decide to want to venture onto Battle.net. But you'd have to start a character from scratch, because there'd be no way for us to guarantee no cheats were involved, if we let you play on the client and then take that character online.” Also, piracy."
Erm you let people create a single player character and a multiplayer character with each not being useable in the other mode. What the fuck has happened to Blizzard. Pre-Activision merger they would NEVER have done that.
Mods on the overall whole are a GOOD thing, its a major benefit of the PC gaming over consoles.
I don't like what Blizzard is becoming :(.
Pre-merger every game out of Blizzard was pure gold, but ever since then everything has been far more about money milking the shit out of their franchises and less about making quality games. Though Starcraft 2 was still very good. Cataclysm for WoW all in all was a marked drop in quality significantly from prior WoW expansions.
And for them to make the ingame auction house in D3 to be real money based. Gah . In a fucking MMO that's fine. Not in a mostly singleplayer / co-op rpg. That's just plain wrong on so many levels its not funny. Shame on you Blizzard. The merger was the worst thing to happen to the company imo.

Those are terrible but hardly a surprise. If I had been naive and planning to get the game, I wouldn't now for sure: I don't care about mod support but I lost so much of my time to offline LANs of D2 that I just couldn't buy a game where I can't do that anymore.
Still, these aspects do not impact the game itself directly. IMO, the more interesting information is seeing how(
http://www.diablofans.com/topic/26249-diablo-3-press-event-visit/) skill points were removed, effectively enabling you to respec completely once your level is high enough. No more choosing between a frost/firewall sorc build or a pure lightning one, so essentially no more personal connexion with your character.
It's like there is this huge divide between what I liked in Diablo and what Blizzard thinks most people want from it, and it keeps me away from the game. For the best, mind you.
EDIT: Come to think of it, I am wrong. The auction house impacts the game, as it will inevitably change the item drop system as well as the behaviour of co-op players.

Speaking of Blizzwallesses, are they still viable in 1.13?

I don't think so
, Tim. Item drops happen for specific people now. What one person sees dropping isn't what the others see. What drops is for you alone.
It doesn't sound that bad to me. SC2 is always online and I haven't had any problems with it. Characters will be completely serverside which supposedly will prevent cheating. No 90 day expiration either.
I still wouldn't tolerate always online DRM from anyone else though. There's no reason at all for something like Driver to have it.
Koki on 1/8/2011 at 12:51
Oh? Doesn't Driver save the data server side? Since that's apparently all you need to get along with it, lol.
Dresden on 1/8/2011 at 13:10
Driver doesn't have PvP or an in-game auction house (which you don't have to spend real money in btw). There was really no reason to play Diablo 1 or 2 with anyone but people you knew since cheating was so rampant.
Koki on 1/8/2011 at 15:41
Rampant cheating in closed BN?
And, of course, single player?
Mr.Duck on 1/8/2011 at 16:56
Perm online connection?
Eff that.

Hi-ho Torchlight 2 and Grim Dawn!
Those 2 games are why my care-level was already at zero. I don't understand why people gave a shit about the game to begin with, really.
