Grimbright then?

I don't have qualms about the art direction. To me, the colours seem to bring some clarity to the combat, which is nice. The gfx in general do remind me a bit about WC3, which doesn't fit that well, but I don't think I will have that much problems with it.
Far bigger question is that will I actually care to play this game. I've only once completed Diablo2 (expansion included), because I always get stuck on the Jungle chapter, because its so goddamn boring and shit.

I had the very same problem. Only I soldiered on to the desert, and it got even more boring, so I said fuck it and never completed the game.

Grimbright then?
I actually like this term, and think it could apply to nearly any game with this kinda cartoony-dark style.
SubJeff on 23/12/2010 at 22:59
Yeah it's an okay term.
What I like more is the way I don't give a crap because it just looks good to me and the gameplay will be more important anyway you dong eating gfx whores of babylon.
:tsktsk:

Whoa whoa whoa dongs aren't meant to be eaten
good LORD man, get at least a couple of these things straight
Anyway, Diablo 3: now looks like Torchlight, only with a slightly higher poly count. Also grimbright more like grimmshite, amirite
I may or may not be joking, but I do know how to do this thing.

NO! Well...kinda.
If you ask me, it looks like Torchlight, if Torchlight went with a more watercolor painted look, instead of the usual flatter cel shading style.
Edit: Just look at (
http://mysterycity.de/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/diablo_3_gameplay_video_screenshot.jpg) this screenshot. It's the first 3D game I've seen that looks like you're playing a painting. I don't care how many dipshit, mouthbreathing internet toughfucks scream WoW gayness, that's awesome looking.
Sulphur on 24/12/2010 at 08:56
Mm, that does look good. What are Ents doing in Diablo, though? Never mind, I'd rather not discuss voodoo shamans and lizard men again, once in a week's good enough for me!
Devil's Advocate Edit: There aren't any shadows in that screenshot, which is a little odd, no? And I'm not sure if part of the painterly aspect is because of the blurriness of the picture. Sharpen that stuff up and you have clean edges that lose a lot of the oil-painting quality.
Those new shots do look incredibly Torchlight-y AFAIC, but I guess there are only so many ways to do brightly torchlit dungeons after all.
Briareos H on 24/12/2010 at 09:24
Either the style has changed quite a bit since the "WoW gayness" debacle or the first dungeon was a bad example to showcase the game. Anyway, I do like most of the look of the game especially when the painted attributes are easily seen. However, I've found out that to my liking, the problem is not so much about the use of many bright colours and 'gayness', but a general lack of contrast in most of the screenshots we've seen until now. Choose any of these new screens taking place in a dungeon, turn up the contrast (and consequently turn saturation down just a notch), and you've got a game where black is really black and still lots of colours everywhere.

Perfect in what way? Demonstrating how utterly bland and boring Diablo 3's randomly generated levels are?
