So the class is named Demon Hunter? Seriously? What are other classes doing then? Just sightseeing The Sanctuary?

"And over on the right side we can see the boots of Arthas, sitting next to a dark elf statue, on a blue brick."
Wonder how much a ticket to the Sanctuary would cost. I mean, with the economic depression and all that, must be really cheap. Seems like anyone can go there.

Diablo 3? WHO CARES? Yeah, I know. A bunch of people care. But I don't. BRING ON TORCHLIGHT 2!

"You always have a choice!" Cheesefest indeed although I've resigned myself to the fact that Blizzard are now focused purely on the market of teenage boys - in this case fantasising over rescuing a vunerable rogue wearing little more than a bra in the woods. In what looks like November.
Who was pretty much always their target audience, so nothing new there.
Diablo was never high art nor had much depth to its gameplay. They're aren't all of sudden going to start treating it as such now, especially since World of Warcraft has broadened Blizzard's audience tenfold since a decade ago. Diablo was always been an instant gratification, mindless click-fest of a game. "LET'S GO GET THE MEAN LOOT!!!!!111" Even back in the heydays of the PC RPG boom of the early 2000's it was looked down upon as a RPG for mouth breathers.

I'm sure anyone interested in the game knows that the last class to be revealed is the Demon Hunter, as per the Blizzcon highlight reel.
I'm not here to talk about the character class, though. I'm here because this is the first of the character class videos I've seen.
And it is (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMZvOcVwtOQ&feature=player_embedded) truly awful.
Blizzard may not be the best in the business when it comes to crafting a narrative, but the cheese and the campiness of this just misses the mark by, oh I don't know,
seven hundred sextillion fucking miles. Starcraft = cheese done right. This = excuse me while I ham up a deadly serious franchise by channelling a Ghost Rider accent and stop mid-sentence to barf that pepperoni and cheese steak pizza I just scarfed down all over your shoes.
Plus, the cut-scenes are in-engine. And since this is with WoW-worthy polygonal boob-armour sharp enough to poke your eyes out, it's a bit jarring to my finely honed Blizzard CG whore sensibilities.
In essence: what. the. fuck.
It's a fucking disgrace.
Bah. I'm off to play Torchlight.
Blizzard created a minor cutscene team at some point, to create announcement videos and certain ingame cinematics for games.
They know they'll never be able to replace their cinematics team with them though, since they consistantly blow the minor team out of the water every time.
Don't expect those cinematics to ever appear in the final product of diablo3 though.

To be fair, I don't really see that as a noteworthy shift in focus. I mean, I like Blizzard's stuff, but that's always been the bread and butter of their target audience.
Yeah but the not insignificant "Stay-at-home-Mom" segment that WoW appealed to has now been sidelined like,
completely

It's still bread and butter fantasy genre stuff though, especially for something which leans towards Robert E. Howard like Diablo. It'll be business as usual even for those with passing with interest in fantasy.

Didn't know that! So there's hope after all, then. I'm still hovering around the 'cynical and pessimistical' side of things though.
Ulukai: Lend me some of that stoic, firm conviction in the face of ever-increasing ridiculousness that you seem to have buckets of, please. I used to have some, some time ago. :(

Yeah, their main cinematics team is still rocking away, but there's just so much they can do considering the sizes of their projects, their ingame stuff in sc2 still was way beyond the stuff the minor team did.
This is probably still the style the d3 cinematics will have:
