Those screens look pretty grimdark to me.
Honestly people play this breed of RPGs for socialising with friends mainly, that's where the relatively basic pick-up-and-play nature comes into it. Art direction is a relatively trivial complaint compared to whether or not the gameplay is up to snuff.

Yeah, those screenshots actually look a LOT better than the older ones that were being shown and subsequently lambasted. Might just be that particular location though.
