Why? Act IV is bad sure, but it's so short. And Act V just gets better as you go.

The light radius argument is interesting, perhaps it should be darker.
Let us not go back to (

Why? That's exactly the whole point of the goddamn game.
Koki on 2/7/2008 at 10:36
The point of the game is to not be able to see shit?
I guess that's why you love Silent Hill so much.
LancerChronics on 2/7/2008 at 11:09
actually that's not half-bad, a nice medium between the two I dislike. Plus I think that Blizzard should probably get rid of the Rainbow in the background...rainbows and diablo don't mix.
To the idea of light radius: I prefer it be larger, whats the point of having nice graphics if you can't SEE any of it. Plus with the sheer amount of mobs that will be coming at you at once (as seen in gameplay tralier), a large light radius becomes almost required.

I like Gothic 3's pastels, feels like autumn has descended on humanity. I like it much better than the played-out blood and gore macabre cliche.

The issue is not with the number of colours, but rather the overall tone and saturation.
That's a fair point and I don't fault anybody for preferring the darker stuff. I recently started replaying the original and I'm loving every bit of it. What I'm reacting to is mainly the kneejerk fanboy reaction that Blizzard's art direction is all wrong.
What? Didn't anybody see the cinematic trailer or look at the concept artwork? They're spot fucking on!
The gameplay video is supposed to show off the new engine and give us a taste of what the gameplay is going to be like. Getting your panties in a twist about rainbows in the foggy distance is completely missing the point.

* Blizzard challenged themselves to add color to the art style while maintaining the dark, gothic feel of the previous titles.
I'm confident Blizzard can pull this off and I'm excited for the final product.

Dungeons with a blue/green environment lighting, technique used in cartoons to depict a dark, creepy and scary feeling but once again, this is Diablo, a mature game, dungeons should have a dark aura with the occasional lights from candles, just like we got in the previews Diablo's.
olol cuz blue and green (
http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/_images/artwork/ss21-hires.jpg) is kitty colors. As a mature gamer, I can only tolerate the colors black, red, grey, and tits.
I'm gonna make a prediction here, people. The game starts out with a (
http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/_images/artwork/ss13-hires.jpg) colorful bent because the world is probably supposed to be more peaceful and whatnot. But as the game progresses, and Diablo goes batshit willy nilly, it'll probably shift to something (
http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/_images/artwork/ss12-hires.jpg) a bit more gothic and scary.
Yeah, I'll concede it could be a little darker. Running through shadowy dungeons was one cool thing about the previous Diablos. Barring that, I can't complain about the new style. It looks like they're trying to make the game look like their concept art, brushstrokes, watercolors and all, and I'm finding myself rather partial to it.
Overall, this is all much ado about nothing.

Yes, lots of people on the internet behave like idiots.
No, this doesn't mean that the things they feel strongly about are automatically invalidated or that everyone who isn't that keen on the way Diablo 3 looks so far is a drooling fanboy.
I wish people who have actual points to make were able to ignore most of the polarised "This rules!!!!!"/"This sucks!!!!!" opinions so one can have an actual discussion with the people who don't see things in black and white.
ignatios on 2/7/2008 at 16:15
Haha but Thirith, black and white is ideal for Diablo!
