I guess what it comes down to is do you want and expansion pack or a sequel?
An expansion pack would be essentially the same game: same play styles, same look, same feel, same music...but with a few shiny new baubles to make you ooo and awww.
A sequel could be pretty much anything, so long as the storyline takes place in the same world, and it begins after the timeline of the previous game. Heck, they could make it an FPS if they want and it still would be Diablo 3.
Anyway, just a thought. Thought I must say the landscape does have a bit of the "polished" feel that WoW had(everything is so shiny and smooth..probably even sand if it was in the game). But this could also mean a lower polygon count, so the game still looks nice, but doesn't cause my computer to choke and die. I do prefer the grittier looking D3 from the pictures, though I'd also like more color..wonder how one would pull that off?

(

Looks Autumny.

Fatal Attraction!
Two words, I win.
But srlsy, enjoyed both Diablos even if they're pretty much shallow when compared to, say, Baldur's Gate II or Fallout or somesuch. The Doom of action rpgs I say, and Doom sure was fun :D
Ah, great times...

It's a matter of the similarities between them, and anyone with half and ounce of brains (not you apparently) can see there
are similarities.
So, a man with cocks for eyes and one with half a brain walk into a bar...
[Edit]Also, (

As I said above, from the screenshots it looks like it's an issue of textures. Look at the stone floor in that cavern - you don't need more polygons, but the textures look very smooth and clean. Same range of colours but more grain in the texture work would already change things quite a bit.

denisv - I agree with that!

This one has 8,500 signatures atm. Cartoon'ish? Thats not my impression. No where near the level of cartoon'ish such as Valve's TF2 or Pixars The Incredibles etc. etc.. Sorry I've never played Worlds of Warcraft or whatever its called.

The light radius argument is interesting, perhaps it should be darker.
I'm playin D2 atm for the first time actually before this announcement, honestly I don't know how anyone could not enjoy this game. It's highly addictive. On ACT III atm. :)

If you're on Act III then the magic will soon end.

That's one of the better retouchings I've seen. I'd play it. I find it interesting how a lot of the de-cartooning involves removing colored ambient lighting.
As I said before I've never played a Diablo game, but if they're supposed to be dark and scary, then yes, the current art direction is missing that mark by a wide margin. It certainly doesn't look BAD, but I can see how people might find it inappropriate.
And Koki, if you look at (
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/6795/diabloiii20080628035157dw4.jpg) this screenshot and can't see any similarities to WoW, then you might need to have your eyes checked by a urologist. (arguing on the internet lol)
