You can't ask people to volunteer...
Neither with Solarix nor with Devoid, I didn't ask anyone around here to beta-test or help me in any form.
I just posted info, screens and videos about the games I made. Some folks around here provided help on their own, and I thanked them.
Well, I didn't see this coming, I mean at this caliber...

Are you sure that's what you'd prefer?
All I prefer from around here is feedback, feedback and more feedback. There should be a reason for me that I insist for feedback around here not neogaf or something awful forums. By feedback I don't mean "sacrifice your weekend for me and send me 10 pages of bug list"...Even a simple "I think your trailer blah blah" kind of feedback is useful...
Nobody around here has to buy anything from me. If only you had asked, I can spread out dozens of dozens of keys for my games for ttlg members since *I thought*, people would be really helpful and willingly provide tons of feedback just like they did to my thief fms but I guess times and people do change. Or maybe "fm testing" is a different activity than indie game testing, meh?
Perhaps that's related to what you say about "shit happens", I just didn't see that...
Heck, I even joked that I want to see ZB and deathtol tear my projects apart. Simply because even within those lines I'd find something useful of feedback.
I'm off to design a tshirt for me, "All I wanted to hear some feedback for my games on ttlg but all I got was a lesson on mannerism"

On the one hand, lol. On the other hand, that's not actually what happened here.
Anyway, now you seem to be asking why people here as a group don't get as involved with these things as you might like. Which ... is a fair question, actually, albeit I think the answers will be pretty boring. For myself, I just don't have the time, and I don't expect that to change in the next couple of years.

I even understand your frustration, flux, but your behaviour in this thread? Quite frankly my main impression now is this: that you're a dick. Congratulations on that one. It makes me considerably less likely to consider buying one of your games. One sale more or less won't make a huge difference, but you may want to reconsider how you engage with communities, because I doubt you'd get a much better reaction to this kind of behaviour elsewhere.
Flux on 1/8/2016 at 14:37
If you call someone dick for criticizing someone for promising something and then not delivering it, I'm curious about your level of lexicology for calling that someone, what?
Thirith on 1/8/2016 at 15:22
If you'd just left it at criticising him, fine. You didn't, though; you belaboured the point, which makes you sound petty and resentful, and your reactions to others reinforce that impression. So yeah, I'm pretty comfortable saying that you come across like a dick. As I said to begin with: I understand your initial frustration, but there are better ways of handling this and there are worse, and you chose the latter.
Flux on 1/8/2016 at 15:34
Thanks for staying off the "burn the heretic" frequency.
I didn't belabour any point or anyone. I just tried to leave a note about one beta-tester not beta-testing, as simple as that and while doing that I didn't insult anyone.
And then suddenly I was [sarcasm] mob-lynched [/sarcasm] told being shut up, bite the lip and even my existence were questioned, which was really funny. And I just tried express myself further, for better or worse, doesn't matter.
Brethren asked to beta-test my game, he didn't, he was busy. I had to chase him to hear for Solarix beta-testing as well, where he himself volunteered. And I posted about all this in this thread.
Life is beautiful, though.
Thirith on 1/8/2016 at 17:03
Yeah, you're really making it better. Bye.

Flux, I'm sorry, but I gotta side with others here even as a game dev myself. If people volunteer their free time to beta test, I don't think you can demand and expect feedback unconditionally. It's not like you are signing an agreement or paying anyone. I understand the frustration, trust me I get a LOT more people never getting back to me (and that you got 16 out of 17 testers giving you feedback is actually pretty remarkable, nice work on that).
It's not like extra keys cost us anything, and no one here is doing it maliciously or trying to scam game devs. It's genuine lack of time mostly and I don't fault anyone for it.
Not attacking you either Flux, as I said I fully understand your frustration, but it comes with the territory of being an indie dev and free testing. Yea it sucks, but that's life for you.

I'm speaking as someone who hasn't volunteered to do beta-testing for members here precisely because I am worried that I wouldn't have time for it.
I'm just starting testing my game (GATHER in the what you making thread) so if you're interested PM me :) If you dont manage to get back to me no worries. That's why I crunched in some stat tracking before getting to testing, it's at least an extra useful data point for me and I know you wont pirate the game either :)

Flux, I'm going to have to close this thread if this argument drags on. I don't think it was very tactful to single out Brethren here. You've got sensible advice here and I don't want you to dig a bigger hole for yourself.
Friendly admin advice...
