Tranquilliser darts are pretty useless in my opinion, since they take too long to drop an enemy. They're only useful if you're low on ammo, need a gun that works underwater, or need to KO instead of kill an enemy.
Tranqs are great if you play like a comedy coward though. Sneak into room, fire a tranq at each guy, run the fuck out of there and hide somewhere else, wait.
Job done. A single dart is all you need to KO any basic trooper type, after all.

Heh OP, so I'm actually ahead of you now and I started this morning. But I do have the first few levels pretty much memorized.
I find it odd that people bash the crossbow... I guess you kill a lot of people then? I use tranq darts and prod almost exclusively, at least as long as I'm dealing with the NSF. Sure, sometimes I'll lure someone to a bot, but generally I try to avoid killing people. No mercy for
MJ12
though.

I guess we all forgot one of the biggest hints for a rookie: before wasting lockpicks/explosives/etc. Check to see if you have, or can easily find, a key to the door.
And if you can't find a key, check if there are any explosives around to blow up your way in!
One thing I discovered this playthrough: Throwing knives. They're fantastic for distracting enemies with unfortunate patrol routes/no blind spots. Then just zap them with the prod and collect the knife since just like darts it gets stuck in walls.

^ You're right about the explosives. Just 1 bullet and bam you could get rid of an entire group/trap or whatknot. I've have also threw one on the robot in the training. I took a bit of damage, but i'm a player who usually never leaves witnesses (or at least possible witnesses) alive or at conscious ^^
Especially on stealthgames when you're really focussing on getting around quietly and you don't want to make a dumb move and have a gun or something right in the face. Reminds me of thief 3 moment when i was lockpicking a door in the cradle and suddenly a puppet jumped on me.. Almost gave me a heartattack :laff:
From that mission on everybody got the blackjack or a sudden death awaiting for him/her. Doesn't matter if he's/she's a slave/robot/camera or other creature ^^
Even in the Hitman/assasin creed games, but it's in some missions hard since they're kinda social/group stealth games
And thx for the good hints so far :thumb:

Throwing knifes and darts are also great for breaking weaker doors.

Great my first encounter with the 2 small robot's on wheels down in the mole people's sewers reminded me of thief 2's robots:
They seem so overpowered in the beginning untill you found their weak spot, but in this case they didn't seem to have a big hole in the back to shoot at :p
No seriously, other then the frag/emp nade is there something else i can do (to destroy them)? I don't have the flamethrower on me since i allready have the gun, stealthgun, sniper, shotgun & the regular assault rifle so i don't know what fire has as a effect for them but bullets don't seem to hurt the little bastards.
@dll's post about blackjacking people:
I have the baton on me since its currently the strongest meleeweapons i've found so far, but i still can't seem to blackjack people with it. They just turn around and shoot me right in the face
Oh and the reloading sucks in this game: so damn slow.. But i guess they've implemented that so people will sneak more instead of run & gun
Still its a :thumb: game

Bots are stupid, which is exploitable. They don't hear, for instance. So you don't need to be as sneaky if you're not in their line of sight.
Flames are as successful as bullets (both only do 25% damage). If you've got a shotgun, switch it to sabot ammo (which you should have some of by now), as that does 100% damage to bots (being essentially an antibot ammotype). Or use an EMP nade (if you get it to fall between them as they're heading toward each other, a single grenade is enough). Failing that, for those two just sneak round: there's a whole tunnel to the side to facilitate that.
Also, you can eventually get the spydrone augmentation, which lets you essentially build a steerable emp grenade...but that's fairly inefficient.

Get close. Really REALLY close, and be behind them. Not to the side, not 'mostly behind', but pretty much right behind them. And aim for the small of the back for highest chance of success (it should theoretically work if you hit them anywhere in the back at stupidly close range, but it seems easiest if you aim for the small of the back).
Also, if they DO get angered rather than knocked out, don't try and hit them in the head with the baton: for some reason they don't let KO weapons do headshots, so it's actually more effective if aimed at the body.
Oh, and in a pinch, stun them with the prod: while they're wobbling, they take 4x damage from any and all sources. :)
agrash on 7/6/2009 at 17:53
Thx i went with the nade just in between & about blackjacking them. Its possible that i wasn't close enough. I will try it out later but my fav tactic is the stealth gun so far :)
I'm now at the airfield and i finaly found my first rocket launcher after finding scattered rockets all over the game, but the thing is I only get 1 shot and it's gone after that..? Is that a bug or anything or is a dispossible law like the army has but then again what's the use of carying around 20 rockets when you have to have 20 law's to use them :erm:
DDL on 7/6/2009 at 20:14
The LAW is ..well, a light antitank weapon, a disposable 1 shot missile launcher of terrifying destructive power: it fires one shot and is then 'used up', and it carries it's own ammo, so you'll note your rockets have not been touched. The rockets you've been collecting are for the Guided Explosive Projectile gun, or Gepgun for short. This is an entirely different weapon which you can either A) grab from Paul on the docks right at the beginning, or B) find later. Looks like you'll be going for B.
You'll know it when you see it. It's BIG. :)
Koki on 7/6/2009 at 20:40
You won't be able to one-shot people with the baton unless you invest in low-tech weapons(or use the melee damage boost aug). I think you need to be Advanced to do it, so it's not really worth the trouble. Stick with the prod.
GEP is in one of the security towers, the ones with 2 cameras and turrets.
DDL on 7/6/2009 at 22:51
Nope, you can one hit KO folks with the baton (or in fact, almost anything: it's 10x damage) from the very start: all you need to be is
A)very close
B)behind them
C)ideally aiming at the small of the back
seriously, you can basically waltz through liberty island with no lowtech skill purely by just batoning folks in the back.
