That godawful cheesy music doesn't help either.

You might be thinking of Rebirth which AFAIK turned into HDTP.
No, he's probably thinking of Reborn because they went inactive for ages.

I'm with DJK on this one. What you listed as current problems of Deus Ex was just as valid around the time the game came out - and in my humble opinion about just as relevant, namely hardly. I can of course only speak about myself here, but I still play DX once in a while and every time I manage to find something in there I didn't experience before - some new piece of dialogue, a new way of handling certain situations and so on. In fact, I think that if I don't count old adventure games such as Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis or the first three Monkey Islands, Deus Ex is the most frequently-played game of all times, more frequently than the Thief series and much more frequently than System Shock 2, which the three character classes aside has never felt that replayable to me (then again don't mind me, I'm one of those weirdos who like the first part much more). Looking forward to playing it again soon, this time with HDTP and in a more violent style (Thief habits die hard... I end up fighting close-range and by sneaking even when I use guns, not to mention the fact that my last two games were "no kills" and "melee weapons only", respectively).
Edit: Even so, something like Thief's Ultimate Difficulty mod would definitely be good to have.

Ah, you're right, that mod is definitely dead.

Hm, actually I got a bit confused there. For some reason I thought he meant UNATCO Born...don't know why I thought that.
