someone with me? Deus ex was my fav game ( until i played THIEF). Deus ex is now falling apart(i mean bad engine and bad AI ). They should make a remake for deus ex with today engine and AI (like thief sneaking things merged with halo shooting.) Should be kickass ! if thats ever happen, i'll buy it for sure ! And they should bann deus ex 2, Im not saying its a bad game, im saying IT should not be named deus ex, because i Dont have the same feeling plaing the second than I had playing the first one.

It'd be nice if every game we loved would age well, but only bad games get remakes.
Despite being a mostly good game, technically, I always felt that Deus Ex had no soul, no atmosphere and no character, which is why I've never been able to warm up to it like System Shock 2.
That godawful cheesy music doesn't help either.

One one hand yes and on the other no!
I've played Deus Ex through three times in the last month and it's still an utterly fantastic game. The AI was never good, the graphics really don't matter that much. But you are right, I would love the shit out of a remake of the game with much better AI, graphics (and make the enemies a bit harder) whilst keeping exactly the same plot, characters, everything else. HDTP only improves the most superficial of features.
And I think it's you who have no soul if you can't find atmosphere in the mid-apocalyptic urban futuristic totalitarian hell of Deus Ex

Hey now, that was my favorite part of the game. I think a great deal of the atmosphere was spoiled for me by the fact that the enemies act even more idiotic than Counterstrike bots. Also I hated JC with a passion.
Have you seen the remade cutscenes for the PS2 version?

I'm assuming you guys have heard of the Deus Ex: Reborn project, right? If not, it's a project to port Deus Ex from the Unreal Tournament engine to the UT2004 engine. This project, from the looks of the forums, seems to want to be closer to a remake than a straight port, since there are talks about enhancing the AI and adding a new UNATCO branch to the game.

Sounds like one of those many projects that starts with everyone going "yay!" and then slowly stops updating and dies a very slow and anonymous death among the masses of mods like it.
Still, I'd very much like it if they manage to get it done.

Exactly what I thought as well, especially after I visited their awful webpage and found nothing beyond a screenshot of a barrel.
But ModDB has a video up...more a proof of concept than anything else. Seems that they have the potential to finish this at least.

Yeah, the concerns from the above two posts are all too real. That's the main problem with projects like this, people get overambitious and then burn out halfway through.

I thought reborn died years ago.

You might be thinking of Rebirth which AFAIK turned into HDTP.

Aww I kinda liked the site. It's clean, concise, and blocky. In any case, it's as good as its going to get since a) it works and b) there aren't exactly web developers flying out of the wood-work to make a DXR site for free. And as with every mod with a team of 1 person its going to be updated rather infrequently ;) Next update will probably be in January and will hopefully include the first beta version of the mod.
