But they foolishly attempted to squeeze state-of-the-art PC graphics out of it. They tried to have their cake and eat it to, but just ended up with pie on their face.
(I love it when a metaphor comes together)

I think targeting high end PC hardware has more to do with it.

It looks bad because the textures are very low resolution, and the architecture is simple.

One of these days some noob is gonna misspell it as DEU SEX and boy am I gonna laugh then.

actually, I think you'll find that often the resolution of them isn't the issue - they're mostly 512x512 or so, which is fine. Its the lack of detail-textures, the poor application of them (some of those stretches are just dumb) and the fact that they seem to have been hugely rushed that causes the problem. Applying bump mapping instead of details rather than as well as is obviously a design choice that could have been influenced by X-Box memory constraints, but some textures are as large as 1024x512, yet offer the detail of a texture thats just half that, which just shouts that they're rushed especially when compared to DX1 textures.

Just an interesting preview clip (from a link on (
http://www.bluesnews.com)) for "Far Cry" that has a clip about Deus Ex 2 I found interesting. The screenshots I've seen for this game to be released look amazing and I've been curious whether it will be the same awesome environment during gameplay. From the posts I've seen in here, a lot of people have said that the early screenshots for DX2 are much better than the actual game ended up being - but based on this review, the early screens Far Cry showed actually are like the gameplay (or so this guy says..)
Here's some clips from his preview:

2. Graphics?
You're an idiot if you think this game is unattractive. The animation is great, the character detail is absurd, the draw distance is astonishing, the excessive bump-mapping and pixel shading is terrific, and the way everything in the world moves and flows is simply brilliant.
Top of the line machines also have nothing to worry about, seeing Deus Ex chug by on the same machine that runs Far Cry perfectly is very satisfying.6. Sunshine and Rainbows?
This is perhaps the biggest immediate draw and positive of the game. Far Cry doesn't take place at night and in some massive, god forsaken warehouse. Nope, this is a lush, vibrant, massive, and very, very bright world complete with weather and plenty of sun. This adds a whole new dimension of personality to the genre.

I just noticed they have a single player demo - so I think I'll grab it to check it out.:thumb:

Whoa - I would encourage people to click on the "media" section of the Far Cry website and view the "Crytech Engine" video (it's a wav file). It's really interesting to say the very least.
For those of us who have played with Dromed (the editor for Thief), this should be an amazing video for us IMO.
