Deus Ex:IW...how to make a poor sequal. - by grapedog

I just really have a hard time expressing my displeasure with this game. I played the original again just 2 weeks ago as I lead up to this games release...and maybe if I hadn't played it so recently, I wouldn't notice how much is missing from DX:IW...but there really is a LOT missing, a lot of content.
Goals, Conversations, Notes, Books, Newspapers, Private Emails, Public Access Stations, Weapon stats, more information...more gameplay...more depth. It's really sad that this is the sequal to the original. I hope they don't screw up Thief 3 this horribly.

SEQUEL
Christ, that bugs me.
WHEN DID EVERYONE FORGET HOW TO SPELL SEQUEL?
Probably around the same time they decided there were two Ps in "opinion" and that "loose" was the opposite of "win"

That's rediculous.

Damned those of lesser powers! Let us berate them thoroughly!

This thread is really "grate" -- as in grating. Then again, who knows about "sequals". It's all "pidantic".

GBM really is grouchy these days, isn't he? He's a bit like Arnie in Kindergarten Cop with all these noobs floating around.
Not that I watched Kindergarten Cop. Honest...

If you spend some time looking around the game and playing it instead of bitching about it maybe you'd notice that many of those things are still there! :cheeky:
Seriously though, The Goals system is a bit messed up.... I don't know what they where thinking, but it's not an XBox problem that caused that. We're capable of decent goal systems (see KotOR, Splinter Cell, etc for instance).
There are conversations, but if you've not spent time sneaking around, you'll miss them..
I've found data-cubes all over the place with all sorts of info on them.
I've yet to see any newspapers, maybe they just don't print them in this age? (waste of paper and all that?)
The old computer terminals are replaced with the halo devices, and if you look, some of them have an envelope icon floating in them, those are the e-mails. Again, this is an update to the tech. more than anything.
The public access stations (which provided news to the common joe that walked up to them) are still there, those are the things on the walls with the 3D holographic globe on them.
I made mention of this in another post, Ion Storm leaned the game more on the shooter side than the RPG side... with it went some of the "depth" (or as some would say, filler) the original had as well as all those fiddley stats on weapson and such.
The bottom line is that Ion Storm went in a different direction from where many of the die-hard fans wanted it to go.
If you're looking for a good RPG, Bioware and Black Isle have a long list of them you can play. :D

Exactly that plan I do to!
I'll forget about rushing to buy DXIW, I'll wait until it will be a budget game, say in 2005
and then I'll see.
And as I have taste for a GOOD RPG, I'll be playing Icewind Dale during Christmas vacation. :p
