I'm not even going to ask if you've been living under a rock the last five years. Instead, I'm going to ask how big of one.
Give the guy a break. He's been living in a cave on Mars for the last five years, with his fingers in his ears and his eyes closed ;)
That said. Great because of the huge story and immersive gameplay. If you thought Half Life was impressive when it came out, because it had a storyline, that's NOTHING compared to Deus Ex.

One thing I like about Deus Ex is that you can interact with many characters in the game without them automatically trying to kill you.

A while longer. Is it worth it? you ask humbly.
I got it as a best-buy last year. A total rip-off. Top notch, I was surprised, I was entertained, I was challenged and it was *good*. I am only sad that I wasn't around to support it when it came out, because it's the right step in the right direction. What a loss. :erg:
It's an adventure-packed action game with a flavor of RPG. If you are looking for a game that you can play over and over from any other perspective than tactical combat then you will see the short-comings. I see the mention of UT and while I it isnt a pureblooded shooter, it's still a shooter. You can customize keys and use mouse and keyboard. You'll find the use of different tactics necessary, a swift blade, sniping, stealth, charge and etc. and it's supported. If you are too noisy you'll alert near-by hostiles and in some cases ruin your objectives or get yourself killed. There's a bit of realism that can be quite fatal, fog of war, drowning damage, jumping from heigths, wavering guns depending on skill, heavy injuries that affect mobility and weapon requirements and so forth...and then there's the augmentations that will enhance and add innate abilities...and special weapon mods that will improve damage or accuracy and more of individual guns.
Don't wanna spoil the game for you, if that was even possible, but It's really quite linear, story-wise - and that's a real shame from an adventuring rp stand point.
Nevertheless, it's a great experience and one you'll be happy to have known the pleasure of playing. It's a great beginning to a...dead end, so maybe you should just quit it entirely, before it starts to hurt after the realization that it's unfortunately one of a kind, the kind without continuation, without extra value-added content, without special codes or patches to unlock all the great paths and opportunities that could have been...*sniff*. :( ;) :p :ebil:
Maybe I'm too late and you've already tried it, but it would be kinda nice to hear your impression for good or worse.
Just my two ce...uh, 69 DKK ($10)...

I've had the game for a while and never bothered to play it. Now I ask,Is it worth playing? I'm not asking for a "YES!!! Its the best game ever!!!! wooooo!" give a reason please. Is it like Red Faction? That's how i imagine how the game works. Course I'm so used to UT2k4.
Deus Ex is worth playing for a number of reasons. First off is the story which is just unbelievable (everything from the characters to the corperations are believable). Secondly is the gameplay, Deus Ex has one of the coolest combos of RPG, Stealth, and FPS, and whats more is that unlike most Hybrids (I'm looking at you Omikron...) it is really well put together, meaning all the elements work together in harmony. Finally the sound, levels, and graphics are all really well done.

If you're used to UT, this game will be the opposite of what you're used to. It is much more thought/decision based and less speed/shooting based. It is also far more complex. The story is great, and IMO it is better than HL2.

I didn't even think of getting HL2. Partly because I never found Half-Life1 that great, and partly because of STEAM.
