Deus Ex vs. the System Shocks - by ZymeAddict

I've can't help but notice that the System Shock section of these forums is always quite a bit more active than the Deus Ex section, which seems to be a pretty definite demonstration of the relative popularity of both games.
So why is this? Do you guys just prefer one over the other? Does it have to do with the comparative quality of each game's sequel (i.e. SS2 vs the generally despised IW) and the effect that has had on the continued support each franchise has received? Or is it some other reason?

Well, I donnow. I like both System Shock and Deus Ex, but I played System Shock 2 many years ago, and I'm just playing Deus Ex at the moment. However I haven't played System Shock I, but I've read it's story, and I have it on my computer. And I also haven't played Deus Ex: Invisible War, because I wanna finish Deus Ex at first.
I think both game deserve the attention of the people, since they're the best games ever made besides the Half-Life series. I always suggest the mentioned games to my friends, but unfortunately, they aren't popular, although they deserve much more popularity. (Only Half-Life has that much popularity that it deserves.) Possible, that the world isn't mature enough for this kind of games. Most people prefer the brainless Doom-like games. :(

Now dont get me wrong, deus ex is a great game, its one of the few games ive completed on more than one occasion (there arn't many from that era), its full of memorable moments and has a premise to die for.
But, since launch i couldn't help feeling that it was stealing a little bit of shock 2's thunder.
Over the years ive watched it take all the credit for its open ended rpg/fps hybrid gameplay, and its got a pretty comfortable position in almost every magazines top 10 of all time.
If not for this forum, the community and the hype around Bioshock being akin to the second coming, i fear that ss2 to would simply slip further and further down that "best games of all time" chart.
Deus ex has had a good run taking all the credit for Ss2's innovation, in august thats all going to change.
History is going to rewrite itself

Oh for the love of...
You think, maybe, it's because there are a lot more places than here for DX fans to congregate? When it comes to discussing SS2, TTLG is pretty much the only game in town. DX fans, on the other hand, have the Eidos and Planet Deus Ex forums, among others. The fanbase is there, it's just more diffuse.

You mean the SS2 and the not-so-well-liked IW? From the other topic I never got the impression everyone hated it, frankly - most just didn't think it was as good as Deus Ex. Anyway, off that topic - if SS2 has got a bigger community, I would doubt it's because of more support for the franchise, considering how much attention Deus Ex got/is getting from mods. Guaging the forum activity here isn't a good representation of the popularity of either though, as Zylon pointed out.

True. I guess I just hadn't really considered the fact that ttlg was one of the only forums dedicated to the System Shock series. (I couldn't help but lol at your reaction to such a dumb question though :D)
So ARE there any other SS related forums? I would be interested in checking them out if there are.
