Powercrazy, you missed the key word in my sentance - objective. News is subject to certain peoples wills and designs. It can be propaganda. Like almost anything really.
And tevoudrais, maybe they should make you learn english as well, as you seem to have trouble understanding some of my posts, unless of course you simply didnt bother reading them. I never disagreed with any of those things you pointed out, and I said why. And, for your information, I have learned quite a bit of history, but let me remind you, history is not limited to events in, or involving, the US.

I'm not Naive. I know news is not objective. I know that the producers always put there own spin on things. unfortunetly there is nothign i can do about that. But what i can do is get news from other sources. And hope that after all the political weight and opinions have been filtered out, that i have a fairly good feel for what is happening in the world, and from this I fell i am intelligent enough to make judgements, and predictions about the world. And as tevoudrais said, I'm not making up the US Empire status... It is based on facts. I'm sorry to say it but, the US has its hand in everyones business... Think about the UN and NATO Thoses are the two biggest players. US controls to some extent all countries involved in those treaty's...
The truth hurts, but at least the US is a Benevolent Dictator. Remember when the US had TOTAL POWER, after ww2 for about 5 years we were the only nation that had the bomb... And yet we were nice enough not to press for world domination... I can't think of anyone else that would do that... but once we were ahead you don't think we'd just sit back and let ourselves go under do you? Think about the Korean War, Vietnam, Persian Gulf just to name a few. Most were under the guise of stopping communism, but I believe they were simply attempts to expand and control more area. We failed in Vietnam, but in Korea we still 'control' them. Isreal, yep. the islands in the pacific? yep. you see we are very much an empire. a Defacto empire. Can you name another country that shares that status? Thats what a Super Power is. A nation with a HUGE influence, and control. and at this point in time... the US is the only superpower. superpower=defacto empire. one is just more common for the situation...

... with remarks like this your really tarnishing the reputation of your countrymen. So stupid. Let me remind you again, its not a game of Civ we're talking about.

If you review history you will undoubtedly come up with technological advances that occured during wars and such. EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY with a significant advantage ALWAYS exploited it to conquer their neighbors. Guess what? The US DIDN'T!!!! We could have taken over all of Europe and russia, hell probably the world, BUT we didn't. Thats the first time in History where a Major power did not immediately sieze control, when the opportunity arose.
tevoudrais on 20/8/2002 at 21:32
for your information mucca, i made a 5 on the English AP tests, which would make me an expert in english....yes i read your previous posts, and they DO say what i mean, you just dont want to admit to it.....and what powerkrazy said would not in ANY way tarnish america....we sped up production on the atomic bomb because we found out the nazis were close to having their own.....had THEY beat us, i'm sure things would be different...we ARE very good to have what we have and not use them. MANY other countries would have used such weapons of mass destruction just to make themselves look big and bad...we're not interested in that.
PowerCrazy on 21/8/2002 at 04:12
I KNOW its not a game of Civ. This is a little thing I like to call REALITY!! In reality, things aren't "fair" or "balanced" some countries are pawns, some are players. The US is a player, the countries that it controls in one way or another are pawns....

tevoudrais, would you kindly point out where exactly in my posts I denied that the US had set up Saddam Husain, helped Bin Laden, gave money to countries after WWII, was involved in the splitting up of Germany and formation of the Bundesrepublik, and the rest of what you said. Thanks.
And PowerCrazy, you simple cannot compare the discovery of the atomic bomb and debate over whether to use it to conquer the world, with any other technological advance in warfare that predates it. The atom bomb is a weapon of mass destruction. It cannot be used to target another countries military etc, all it does is wipe out huge chunks of civilisation. All it can do is bring another country to its knees, and only through fear and loss if innocent life. To use it to take over the world would have been the most inhumane act in the history of mankind. You dont have to be "nice enough" not to use it, you just have to realise what it does. And I'ld just like to say you have one of the most biggoted and downright disgusting attitudes to human life Ive ever encountered.
PowerCrazy on 21/8/2002 at 08:42
regardless of whether or not we would actually of USED it is not the point. If we wanted to take over the world the mere threat of us using it would be enough. However the whole point of that is to demonstrate that the US had total power, but we did not use (or even threaten to use) it. And in which way am I

I am simply stating fact and observations. The world is not a nice and happy place, where everyone always gets along. And everyone is equal, and wars never happen, etc. In this cruel world, there is nought a person can do besides understand whats really happening. Hopefully if enough people are enlightened more intelligent descions can be made, and maybe, JUST MAYBE, we can live in a perfect world. But as long as people continue wallowing in ignorance, or even daring to make observations based on fact, the world run by the "secret" government will remain, (but maybe thats not such a bad thing.)
Mucca on 21/8/2002 at 08:59
Well, in my opinion, if everyone had more compassion for human life, and an acceptance of basic human rights, then the world would be a much better place. Simply saying "Sure, the world is fucked up, I may as well play along" will never accomplish anything, just keep things headed down the wrong path. Its an entirely selfish attitude. A problem is not solved by merely accepting it and learning to live with it. It is just brushed away, and quality of life is sacrificed by having to live with the problem.
And what I meant by my comment was that, you seem to think that it was an act of good will that should be applauded when the US didnt try and take over the world and kill millions in the process, whereas I see it as their duty to mankind. It should have been expected of them. Thus it is not a laudible act.

The United States has been an imperialist country sense the beginning. We have preformed some horrendously evil acts. but then again what country hasn't?
You could even compare the indian removeral act to the Germans in ww2 Hitler wanted Libenspace (do not know how to spell it) or living space. So he tried to wipe out an inter race. We did the same thing to the Native Americans. We wanted there land, so we killed the many on them as we could and took it. We almost wiped out their inter race and culture. We would send the Indian children we captured to re-education camps aka brain washing. We force them to adopt out cultures.
Even thought we have committed “evil” acts I steal love America. No matter were you go in the world there is going to pain and suffering. Every country in the world has there share of skeltons in the closet. America has also done alot of good for the world. America may want to rule the world, but is that isn't nessacrly a bad thing.
We have to look at our history to determine whether not we are an imperialist nation.
