So, the PS2 version of Deus Ex just got added to PS+ Premium, and it was fun to finally check out this thing I'd been curious about for 20 years. I played the first few missions, up until destroying the generator in Hell's Kitchen, so Paul and his team can attack the airport. The main concessions to the weaker hardware are the smaller levels. Liberty Island is split into 5 areas(not including the UNATCO underground base), tho thankfully loadtimes are short(at least on PS5). Aiming is clunkier, but there's generous auto-aim, so I didn't feel overwhelmed in gunfights, even when playing on Hard. Inventory tetris is gone, replaced with a more simplified inventory where everything is arranged into categories. You can only carry one heavy weapon, one rifle, etc. You can tag weapons as favourites, so you can swap between em with DPad Up/Down. There's some slight improvements in presentation, like some smoother animations, and the intro is now a video, instead of being in-engine, and the production values of it are slightly more lavish.
I'd heard that that this version is quite different from the PC version, but after a few hours with it I'm mainly struck by how similar they are. You really could've picked up Deus Ex on a PS2 in 2002 and had a game that was almost as good as the PC version.

Has anyone else here played this? What were your thoughts?

I learned about this port in 2012 and at first i thought it was a joke because how can you possibly port a hardcore PC game like that to the PS2? Then I tried it on my PS2 and fell in love with it because it's Deus Ex, the best game ever, but played with a controller and the new interface is amazing. I actually haven't played the PC version ever since. I tried the Revision mod when it was released but I thought it was a letdown, they just added new objects here and there and changed the level layouts.
The last time I played this port at the beginning of this year on my Retroid Pocket 5 and had a great time as always.
