!UPDATE!
I've actually finished a deus ex piece. No, it's not the medley - that's too hard. I have, however, transcribed the main theme and it's AWESOME! Notice I said transcribed - nothing has been left out or watered down (mostly...the only problem is the limitations of my scorewriting program). The post below is now obselete.

NOTES FROM THE ARRANGER
Deus Ex was a video game that changed the world. The choices you made affected the future layout of your adventure. The game also had phenomenal (PHENOMENAL!!!!) music. Years later, I can still be deeply moved by it. Mr. Brandon is truly amazing, and he wrote the music in his late 20s!
This transcription is dedicated to musicians and gamers everyone, and of course, Mr. Brandon.
A few notes about the parts: some may be less than exciting, such as all clarinet parts and the tenor sax part. I didn't want to skew the balance of the song much by adding instruments that weren't in the original recording. My apologies if you play any of those instruments.
The beginning is a cadenza of sorts (same with measure 62). Feel free to loosen up the tempo (not too much, however - make sure the snare drummer can play measure 2 rather correctly!)
In measure 5, the Timpani controls the transition into measure 6. Get loud!
Most of all, BE EXPRESSIVE. This piece has lots of room for emotion. Get into it. Love it. BE IT. Play the game, even!
Best wishes,
---
NOTES TO TTLGTo hear it, let me know, tell me your email, and I'll send you a .mp3 file. If you have any version of the scorewriting program Finale (download Notepad off of the MakeMusic! website to view it, for example.), I can send you the score file.
I've got a rather cheap version of Finale (PrintMusic '04), and it doesn't handle dynamics very or tempo variations very well (or glissandos), so it's a subpar recording. Sorry! Hopefully Allegro '05 (For Christmas...) will handle it better.
Enjoy!
ORIGINAL POST AND PROJECT
As an ameateur (sp?) composer (as in I'm only going into 8th grade) I had a great idea. At the end of the year band and orchestra concerts, we always do a fun and exciting medley. Deus Ex music is very exciting, is it not?? My only concern is copyright. For the composer I write "Brandon/arr. ******". Is that enough? Anyway, I proudly announce:

Progress: Done with "UNATCO"
When I'm finished, if anyone wants it, I'll mail you a copy (the program uses .MUS files, so I can't email those??).
Do you think this is a good idea? Comments!

There's no doubt that the music in DX is quality. Sounds like a great project to me.
We've talked about the music in this forum before ((
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1191781#post1191781) linky, among other places); it might be useful for you to read what was said, e.g., about particular pieces.
You'll also notice on that thread ((
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1192467#post1192467) here) a link to an orchestral version of some of the music done already (although not everything you are doing, iirc) ... but that shouldn't deter you from your project because it will be good for you in any event.
And yes, I'd like a copy when you're finished post and let us know. (Even better, I wish I had a copy I could play on the piano.) Anyway, good luck.

Thank you for all your kind and supportive replies. It's nice know that my zero and zero supports are posting here because they like the project. :joke: :tsktsk:

Stayed up late finishing "UNATCO". Also added measure numbers to all the parts for the completed sections.

Sounds cool!
When I get me a better keyboard, my band and I are gonna do a Deus Ex medley sometime. Too bad they don't like good music like Deus Ex.

Sounds great! Personnally my fav piece is probably the Underworld Bar one, but I realize that's not exactly one you can do with an orchestra - main theme and DuClare Chateu are second-favs, though. This sounds pretty awesome - I can't believe your school does this stuff. At my (high school) it's just the same old football and christmas songs day in and day out. Bleh.

Fear not! This project is not dead! After a long hiatus, I've resumed my project on Hong Kong Streets and I'm really looking forword to finishing this. It's a wonder I've come back to it. Usually, I play a game for about 2-3 weeks then move on, for a minimum of 6 months. Actually, now I'm playing Splinter Cell, but the spirit of the music of Deus Ex (and therefore the ability to arrange well) still lies within me.
Off I go!

Any chance you can MIDI these songs?
