Hi, I bought Deus Ex from a well known auction site, and when I insert the CD I get the following message:
"The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006)"
I have tried starting the installation directly from the Setup.exe file in My Computer, but I get the same message.
The CD came with the obligatory fingerprints on it and something sticky, but I cleaned it with warm water. I don't think this is the reason for the problem because the CD is being read (at least in that the files are there under My Computer), it's just that I can't get the installation menu to come up.
I'm not entirely sure what my specs are, but it's a pretty good PC. I'm trying to run it on XP.
Is anybody able to help please?

Have you tried to copy all files from your cd to your hard drive and start installation from there?
If there is read errors when you do this operation, then your installation cd is broken.
Also have you tried any application compatibility options on setup file, too?

I tried copying the files to the hard disk....looks like it's a faulty CD.
Oh well. Thanks for the advice.

Does this CD bear a Deus Ex logo, or is it more like a plain CD with line guides with "THIS IS GENIUNE DUES EX HONESTL!!!!" written on?

:laff: It is a genuine Deus Ex CD with logo etc on it. Not a fake, though I'd laught if people actually wrote that on the large number of copies that are for sale!

You could wrangle the original seller about how you were sold a damaged CD, but that's probably more grief than it's worth as it's very subjective and it could be simply that you have a sensitive CD drive. Which doesn't of course do you any good. Can you determine which files are corrupt?

Don't know which are corrupt. Tried the seller but only managed to wangle a pound off him as a partial refund :erg:
I've actually got another version of DX so at least I can keep the colour manual and original big box (only had the CD before), just throw away the CD which I wanted as a spare.
