What would you say, if there was a sidequel to the first Deus Ex...
... done in the same old engine....
... with Paul Denton as the main hero?
I got this idea few dazs back when I finished replay of the first DX.
I once again got the feeling that I am in a working world which I shape by my actions, but other events are happenning around me also, without JC knowing it.
Paul Denton sidequel would focus on what Paul did shortly before JCs adventures started, and what he was doing while JC was busy saving the world.
It would start around the time when Paul came into first close contact with the NSF and being convinced of their right path, jumped to the opposite side of the barricade, still pretending he works for UNATCO. How did he meet and work with Lebedev, Leo Gold, Tracer Tong. His way to Hong Kong, meeting with Maggie Chow, his return to New York. The story would in some places describe the same events as DX did, Paul would even have the same convos and meetings with JC and Manderley as we have seen, but he would have been preoccupied with his own agenda. Then, the sidequel would describe his hard way back to HongKong, with killswitch ticking in his head.
All this should of course assume that you as JC managed to save him in the Ton Hotel, ehm...

It's really interesting how in the original game you have PD sort of going from mentor to a more side-lined character, as JC takes on the mantle to save the world. JC rises as a God-like figure, and Paul descends to a more human level and helps his brother do the right thing.
What would make his story more interesting is giving him a more important role in the moments before and up to the point we start playing, ie. he does some pretty big and important things to set the world up as it is for JC to take on. Although I can't really think of any good examples, the DX world is so rich in story and backstory it wouldn't be too hard to come up with adventures for PD from the many smaller stories underlying the main game.
