I liked DX:IW, enjoyed it even though it doesn't really feel like a DX game & even started playing it a second time. But then I started Half-Life 2, and it really really shows what a bad sequel IW is. HL2 actually feels like a HL game.

Well, I had great expectations for Invisible War, but as it turned out in the demo, and later the game (which I had ordered like a year before the release), it was really bad.
Firstly, the levels. Toooo small. Not as detailed either, many things just didn't work out at all. The biomods were fun at first, but became very boring and I soon even ignored them. A funny thing I could miss to notice was that I could complete the game, with all four endings, only with the help of the baton and the hand pistol.
Of course, this time you didn't carry as much ammo as you did in DX, no super-swords etc, so you actually had to use your ammo tactically. Not that it did change the gameplay very much, but still.
The weapons themselves were also very un-creative. It's like we've all seen their forms and styles in all games out there (the M16 shape), and no reloading at all.
What's bugging me most, and still after all this time, is how much they promised us. They said that we were going to have another underwater base for example, missions in England and Russia, robots, I even think they mentioned new skills and stuff - none which made it to the final game. I'll post some links of what they originally planned to have in the game.
The only good things I can say about IW is, well, the graphics were not so bad, the ragdoll was a new thing for me (IW was the first game I played with ragdoll), uh, the story was interesting at first, but I soon discovered that it wasn't really that interesting. Granted that the story couldn't be as good as in the first game, they could've at least stretched it and made some more twists about it.
Compared to other shooters at the time, and most shooters today, IW still stands out as something more, choice, biomods, talking to people and so on, but change some names and places in the texts in IW, and you got yourself a completely new game.

The first thing that comes to mind among the missing items are several bots that didn't make it, such as a matrix-esque "squid'

I couldn't agree more....... DX2 wasn’t a DX game... it was an (comparatively) innovative fps with the DX theme surgically inserted.
Surely eidos must know that their game was largely rejected by the dx community and fans... they would have to. sure, it made them money none the less but it was the sequel to an almost worshiped game. If they ever do release a DX3, it will be met with huge skepticism from the DX community, so it wont sell on name alone as IW did. That at least is my opinion... surely they wouldn’t forfeit an entire successful franchise because they want to go dual platform again?

Well, I don't know the whole craic right at the minute. But if EA does buy Eidos then I'll lose all hope. Was the game made that way because IS wanted it that way, like we were told. I think Randy someone or whoever said "I wanted to make it so that it would be fun for everyone, DX does'nt need hours of dialogue or loads of scripting"
Eh...I think not. More likely as I'm sure has been said...Eidos pimp thier games, as badly as EA, and probobly forced them to make it...I hate this word "mainstream".
With this in mind it's easy to understand why the good shit that we the fans love was cut out in order to appease Eidos(scum). Where's Baader meinhoff when ya need 'em ;)
