Wow, real life must drive you batshit insane then.
no, not really. I liked 2D platform games, then 3D came along & pretty much killed them off. I always hated Doom. Played Wofenstein 3D a bit but didn't like that much. The first 'modern' game I played that I liked was Tomb Raider. Now I can't stop played DX, though half-life 2 might change that.

Get Deus Ex first, and then don't get IW at all. You will be disappointed if you do.
I did, and this game is ridiculous. I don't know what to do with it.

Did what? Got DX first?
santaClaws on 5/11/2004 at 15:47
No. I bought DX first thing when it came out, fell in love with it immediately and finished it several time. I'm playing it right at the moment, actually.
Then, on gaming media, I heard about DX2 and was anxious to get it. I read all previwes I could get hold of and all interviews with Spector that were there to be read, and I was really looking forward to it.
Years came and went, my computer gradually became more and more olf fashioned, but I thought: Someday, I'll be able to afford a new one, and the first game I'll buy and play is DX2.
Well, you can imagine what happened next. Last week, I finally bought a new PC, went to my gaming store, bought the shipped US version, installed it, patched it and -
- played it.
And now I'm so fucking disappointed. Not just that the gameplay is lousy, the story doesn't work out any more even though I just quit the first building, the character interaction is ridiculous, stealth is virtually impossible, all equipment looks the same, the graphics are worse than in DX, the menus, especially the inventory, are a bad joke a.s.o. - no, to top it all, I had to resort to 800x600, low details in every respect, but it still doesn't run smoothly. On an AMD 3GHz with 1GB RAM and a Radeon 9600XT with 256 MB RAM. What PCs did they use to develop that thing? And isn't the game half a year old already? Well, whatever.
I couldn't even say that I'd like DX2 if I hadn't played DX. IMO it's a second class shooter with bad graphics and way to less time invested in gameplay. If it was the first "enhanced" stealth thingy shooter that'd come my way, I wouldn't like it either. DX2 is just not recommendable.
I'm just pissed off. The next game I was looking forward to was Thief III, having enjoyed the first two parts of the series very much. I'm now in great fear of being disappointed once more. Have you got anything to say that`could possibly cheer me up?

Ummm...
"It's not as bad as DX:IW"?

It's very much a Thief game. And the Shalebridge Cradle is one of the more terryifying pieces of videogaming produced.
Also, editor should be released in the near future, barring any major legal fucktardery.

I enjoyed DX:IW & I'm playing it again now. Obviously nowhere near as good as the original, but IMO not as bad as a lot of people say.

I'm glad I bought T3. It was far from perfect, but still fun. DXIW however, I could only play for about 20 minutes at a time before I got bored.
If you like hte Thief series, I'd say get t3. It's not as good as the first two, so if you didn't really like the first two all that much, I'd say don't bother.

Oh my nerves, I thought you meant Terminator 3 at first. My heart skipped a beat there...

So did GameSpy. On the version of Arcade before 2.0 (1.9?) it recognised Thief 3 as Terminator 3: War of the Machines and offered you the chance to play online... :erm:
