we tried dozens of times but still nothing. I brought my copy down but still no luck. then we got another from my dads buisness but no, still nothing.
his sytem specs are as follows :

one CD drive - CD-RW
Hope this helps

Stops reading the disc? As in:
a. the game doesn't start at all? (do you get any error-messages?)
b. you can't see the contents of the CD with the explorer?
or
c. no CD's work at all?
Do other games work normaly?
Has he installed any new drivers lately?

windows explorer shows nothing, it doesn't even notice there is a disc in the drive.
He cant download the latest drivers because he hasn't got the internet, his computer downstairs does but I keep on tellng him to get a network

If Explorer can't read the CD, it's not a Deus Ex problem. His CD drive's busted.
Incidentally, if he did a full install he won't need the CD. Open DeusEx/System/DeusEx.ini, and change the line "CDPath=d:\" (or similar) to "CDPath=..\"

all of his other games work ok i.g DoW, Rome:TW, Thief 1 & 2, NWN, icewind dale etc.
TheSheep, i will tell him to try that CD path thing, ive actually dont that before

Umm, are you sure that it's not the DVD version? :laff: ... :erg:
TheSheep on 25/4/2005 at 15:33
Is there even a DVD version of DX1?

"Incidentally, if he did a full install he won't need the CD. Open DeusEx/System/DeusEx.ini, and change the line "CDPath=d:\" (or similar) to "CDPath=..\""
This will not work for me.

In the past a few people have been unable to get it to work. Maybe you don't have a full install, maybe you did it wrong, maybe there's some other version of DX which has it disabled or something. I wish I knew what the problem was, but it's always worked fine for me.
You could try a few variations after "CDPath=" - leaving it blank, entering the full DeusEx/System path on HD (e.g. c:/deusex/system), forward slashes/backslashes, with/without trailing slash, etc. etc.

I recall I blasted the entire line and it worked.
