Hm, I don't know about this one. I loved Deus Ex more then sliced beer, in fact I think it's the best game ever made. But I don't know if it would fly.
The main problem is that it's really nothing new. We've all seen basically everything in Deus Ex in a million other movies. Government conspiricies, aliens, cyborgs, etc. I'm not saying the story isn't original, but how would this movie be any different then something James Cameron and Arnold Swartzenegger (sp?) could pull out of their asses and write the script for in 10 minutes. I mean, it would be different, but it'd look exactly the same as a milion other movies when put into a 30 second commercial.

I must say I am amazed and my mind is boggled by the amount of negativity here...
Try to be optimistic!
and like I said before if it sucks just ignore it.

It'd be pretty cool if the movie padded out the story some. For example, if it told the story of Paul Denton. It could start way before the game storyline, and follow Paul's journey from "good guy" to actual good guy. That way it can throw in several surprises whilst not contradicting the game.
Or maybe tell the story from some other agents perspective.
Just a thought.

I'm very skeptical about a movie. They can't tell the story in the time allowed - so any single movie would most likely be just another action/spy/sfx/cga movie, just trading on the name to bring in a few more viewers.
Now - if the producers got smart they'd realize that there was enough material in the game for a whole mini-series or perhaps even several seasons of TV, each episode answering some of the mysteries while introducing others.

I really must admit I'm not looking forward to the movie in any way. Yes I will see, it (and it's sequels) but as the plot will have to be condensed and the whole atmosphere just can't be done justice by, a ,a... MOVIE! (IF YOU HAVEN"T FINISHED THE GAME THEN READING ON ISN"T REALLY A GOOD IDEA SINCE I"M NOT USING SPOILER TAGS) Another reason is because there where dozens upon dozens of different paths in which to play the game, save paul, let him die, save jock let him die, kill Magie, don't, kill Hunderly or not, not to mention the three endings, can they really choose the path that can statify the general public? YEs yes I'm well aware of the coments I'll get on my pessimism, but hey, is this really a happy go lucky game?

The game is extremely condensed already. Not a movie - a TV series. Think X-Files, Babylon 5, Earth Final Conflict, Blade Runner. Spend the first season battling terrorists, developing characters, and slowing introducing clues that something isn't quite right at UNATCO. The season climax might be the discovery of Paul's defection. The second season, JC becomes increasingly suspicious of UNATCO, becomes aware of an organization connected to the plague called MJ12, but remains with UNATCO until the season climax - JC attempts to defect when he discovers the connection between UNATCO and MJ12 - but Paul is killed (apparently) and JC is captured. The third season introduces us to Daedelus and Tracer Tong. Adventures in Asia, JC might get to know Maggie Chow. Season finale a raid on Versalife. Etc.

Yes.

What a way to drag things out... A bit optimistic to assume it will go beyond the pilot, let alone 4 whole seasons. And I never knew that DX ended at Versalife.

Big whoop, surprise us doesn't matter what they choose. Are all the fanboys going to cry and threaten to not watch the show? Those people living or dying doesn't affect the game at all, except for an extra piece of useless flavor dialogue. A book or mini-series would be a lot better. A big black book, with the Deus Ex icon on it in blue is real eye catching. It's that kind of worrying if certain background characters will make the movie be less then it should be. When they have to stop planning and make rewrites on who dies or lives just to make the nerds happy then the movie loses time on more important things like the plot.

The broader narrative must, and in all likelyhood, will stay as in the game. The freedoms we were granted in play are obviously lost, as it will be one person's choice of events. They do not impact on the overall plot however.

I don't care what the movie turns out. If I see a video game being made into a movie I have intrest in or play than iam gonna see it wether or not it is a good movie. Or ill just download it off of Kazaa. Either way iam seeing the movie.
