The entire point of the art of argumentation is to make argumentation valid by basing it on logical processes. By saying "X=Y because go find it yourself" is not a valid argumentation point.

Just because someone does it doesn't make it legal.
It just, as you said, sets a precedent.
This means if we let it go on and not say anything untoward about it now, when the idea is challenged in the future the government can say, "Well if you have a problem with it you should have spoken up in the first place."
This, unfortunately, goes a long ways in court.

Silence now becomes implicit permission later.

You want to be spoon fed information - by the candidates, the mass media, by other people in general. You're not interested in American policies abroad and it surprises you that those "other people" who've spoonfed you are twisting and spinstering, falling within an inch short of outright lies. Or they just don't report it.

Having access to your source is a mean to control by ourselves if what you say is worth the pixels it's projected on.

By denying us that access you are in a way "spoon feeding" us, you dolt. We would like to check and make up our minds, by ourselves. Is that so hard to comprehend?
