Yeah, well, what happens if a place that LOOKS like a good hiding spot really isn't?

Yea, but then it's not very realistic is it.
My point is, there's always gonna be something in the game that makes it unrealistic. Instead of having everything real, focus on gameplay. Because really, that's what the game's for right? If you want real go try stealing things a la Thief. Doesn't get more real then that.

That is true, a game will never be completly realistic. I do not think that you use the "w" and "x" keys in order to move in real life right? ;)
You should be able to desactive the light gem if you do not want it (for whatever reason) . This option would be nice, and not *that* hard to make. Both sides will be pleased then :)

To make it more realistic, If you die then
the game should quit and automatically uninstall itself
then erase the CD, so you can never play it again.
makes it more of a challenge to get it right :)

That would be a bit... erh... difficult to end a game ;) You could manage to bypass the "removing", simply by copying the CD. The game should simply desactive your computer, if you die, you will no longer have the opportunity to play any game. (Societes which sell hardware would love this solution...)

Some Processors, (not used in pc's thankfully)
mainly used in control systems, have a "Burn up and die" instruction
that can be executed and will destroy the chip when it does.
I think some of the PIC series support this.

So you have a problem with the light gem but not the rest of the HUD. Would you rather have to count how many bullets you've used to figure out how much of a clip you had left. What about "guesstimating" your health based on how many shots you've taken. The HUD in any game is unrealistic, and yet accepted and crucial for gameplay (anyone played Tresspasser? that had no HUD, and was terrible). When a game makes stealth an important feature of the gameplay then it's only fitting they give you a HUD readout on your stealth. Plus there are some areas that look like perfect hiding spots but in which you are plainly visible, because it's a game and oddities like this will occur.

Another game plans to be with a very reduced HUD (Call of Cuthlu (spelling?)), there will be no health bar for instance, but you will be able to estimate you health (if you are bleeding, if you have troubles to walk, and so on).
Concerning Deus Ex, there was no light gem, and yet stealth was an option. If the game is designed properly, the player can always guess if he is safe or not. You are standing in shadows, the guard cannot see you, whereas if you are dancing in light, you will be spotted in a couple of seconds. It would be very strange if an enemy attack you even though you were very well hidden ;)
The option of removing the light gem would be nice (I said option, and not obligation, the choice is up to the player). And it should not be difficult to make for the developers.

Has this game come out already? And anyway, what genre is it? I read loads of things, but I could never guess. An egoshooter, an action adventure, an adventure, a shootemup? Hm.
