What you're looking for is called DX Thievery Mutator. Careful though, the translucency changing code seems to be bugged and can cause an irreversible (ie. it is carried over saves) boot-out situation if you enter the same subsection of the map too many times (eg. in Hell's Kitchen, where one moves between subsections a lot - that's where it got me).
Not to mention that thing's pretty much useless unless in multiplayer mode.

DX doesn't have a light gem to begin with, so why would it (the nonexistant light gem) be removed as and improvement? Furthermore, why don't you want a light gem? And lastly, if it bothers you that much, since the HUD is static, you could always stick a piece of electrical tape over the light gem... :cheeky:

I never used the light gem when playing thief and thief2,
always relying on my own skill. In fact it was only after
I had completed thief on hard, that I found out what it did.

After I had finished DX for the first few times, I wanted to replay Thief, but I didn't enjoy myself any more - for a simple reason: It was too easy. DX was way harder yet provided the player with less help (like a light gem, for instance). Well, I sure hope Thief III ain't gonna be that easy.

Ah, I thought you meant the mod was an improvement to dx that removed the light gem... which obviously wasn't there to begin with, which thoroughly confused me.
In real life I can look at my body and see if I'm visible or not, but when I'm a floating sphere of awareness it's kind of hard to do that. Hopefully we'll be able to look down and see our legs in dx2 though.
