Damn it! Oh well, I'll have to remember next time through the game to never let the GEP gun go. I'll resume my progress report soon, I'm currently stumbling around what I believe is the secret MJ12 facility, or at least has a name similar to that.
I'm thinking I really should save playing this game for when I've slept recently. :laff:

Sorry to break it to you honey  , but it's a one-shot wonder :(
Just like the real thing, in fact. Funny how you pick odd bits about real-world hardware from tactical games like Jagged Alliance :)
As for how useful they are, it's good to a few handy while dealing with military bots (and so it happens that the devs did make them available in such locations, if you look hard enough) because this is the deadliest high-explosive weapon in the game. Which reminds me:

:joke: It wasn't so bad. He virtually vaporized, all that was left were a few chunkies and lots of blood, I'm guessing he didn't feel a thing. :joke:

That's not a melee-only walkthrough, it's a non-lethal walkthrough. He uses tranq darts and gas grenades rather a lot.

Newbie Journal, Part II:
I cleared out the helipad area, but ended up using up all my med kits and quite a few supplies. I warily wandered into the actual air strip area, and took out maybe 4 of the little ‘bots roaming around, then realized I was completely out of arms strong enough to take them out, not to mention healing kits.
I ran wailing back to the elevator to the helipad area, and became combing the area, certain there had to be something. In the room jam packed with machines, I stumbled across a button hidden behind a plant. Press it, et voila! Supplies! I explored some more, and realized I completely missed the wing opposite the wing the high tech room, and explored there, getting more goodies and getting myself in better shape. Not in the best shape, but in MUCH better shape than before, I returned to the air strip.
I worked my way through, found all the Ambrosia . . .
I was completely floored about Paul being with the NSF, but that explains why he was whining about me killing them. I didn’t want to assassinate the fello who I was talking to when Agent Navarra waltzed in, she ended up doing it for me. After talking to Gunther after going to the helipad, I’ve decided, I’m going to try to fight my way out of UNATCO and work with Paul, if I can. That poor guy who got blown away, it rattled me, to say the least.
After meeting with Manderly, I went to my office to check my e-mail, see if maybe Paul had written me. Nope, the computer geek dude did. I checked with him, and felt a lot better about heading out. I healed up, loaded up, then went out to the chopper. The comments on the way out . . .
Are they going to kill me there?
I went to try to help Paul, I went in and did everything he told me to, I activated the warning signal, or whatever it was, then on my way out . . . I was killed . . . now I’m in this secret facility . . . I’ve got a little NSF buddy following me around like I’m not going to get him killed, and curiously enough, the security camera isn’t bothered by him. I just gotta worry about myself now.
I was too freaked out, I ended up quitting this mission and reloading back to the beginning of the warehouse mission. I battled my way through, then managed to get to the subway. I killed Anna Navarra, but Gunther . . .
I had to retreat back to the other section of New York. While searching for a surgery bot, I surrendered, more or less, and killed myself, and ended up back in the secret MJ12 place. This time, I was well rested and not rattlable, I made a break for the armory and succeeded in getting there. After loading up, the rest of the level was a breeze. I wasn’t too terribly surprised that the secret MJ12 facility was past the retinal scanner in UNATCO headquarters, I figured I’d end up there eventually. When I saw the name tag by Gunther’s office, I went in there, LAW in hand. Unfortunately, he wasn’t there.
I blasted my way out, although I felt pretty bad for killing the soldiers who’d been so friendly before. I’m in Hong Kong now. I’ve been having quite a bit of fun running around Hong Kong, as usual, the music rules, and so far I’ve been doing just fine on my own, for once. I’ve just had the kill-switch deactivated, and I believe the very last words said to me were:
Mr. Jacobson is here, I believe he’s examining Mr. Tong’s equipment.
:wot: . . . :laff:
Then I realized there was a smell of good food in the room. Look to my right, hey, I brought down supper an hour or so ago. :joke: Guess I’d better eat now, I shall return to my Deus Ex quest after a little bit of nourishment. I shall try to remember to keep working on my newbie journal, but considering how this game's sucking me in, don't hold your breath on it, it's probably pretty messed up as it is. ;) :p

Ah, it's been a while since I looked at that, actually. All I remember was him using the prod on pretty much everybody (including the Commandos.)
Lord Bamse on 27/10/2004 at 20:54
The prod is for sissies, I am running through the game without even knocking out anyone. So far I have been forced to use violence against 2 people, and I'm well past Hong Kong.
TheNightTerror on 29/10/2004 at 06:29
I'll probably try restricting what weapons I use after a few more runs through the game, I'd ditch ranged weapons but . . . the explosions are just so beautiful . . . :ebil:
*cracks neck* Phew! I just finished my first run through Deus Ex, in just under 20 hours. I'm assuming that's not the best time, but hey, I made it through the game completely unaided, and I haven't been able to do that in god knows how long, usually I'm either too impatient or too damn scared to do it on my own.
And, for the final part of my newbie's journal, since I'm fairly sure at least one person might want to read it, continuing from where Part II left off . . .
Part III:
All righty, I got the information on the sword, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I ran in, and ran out . . . and didn’t look back. I got an augmentation (sp?) which gives me continues healing so long as I have enough bioelectric energy, so I barely broke a sweat. Well, I was a bit . . . ‘bothered,’ when I took a wrong turn, and ran into what I believe were the women in black. (Dam should know why. ;))
When I met up with the boys for drinks to celebrate, and heard there was a German speaking man looking for me, I completely froze up. Sure, it could’ve had something to do with the temperature of my room, but I’m thinking it was the thought of Gunther coming after me. I have GEP gun, I have big shiny sword, I make many smaller Gunthers!
Hmmm. I’ve been working my way along, I’ve just arrived in the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard. A threat from Gunther, but no Gunther. Damnit!
Okay, I’ve just sunk the ship. I really liked the ship, luckily my instincts told me to get my ass up to the top level. Top level = bridge, odds are captain’s near there, and I think he was the fello who had the key I needed to get below decks.
When I was running off the ship, I ended up flashing back to System Shock 1. I was pretty disappointed that Gunther didn’t pop up, but I’ll make a bunch of mini Gunthers with my sword later. He knows I’m in New York. I doubt he’ll let me leave when I’m so close to being caught and executed.
As I leave the naval yard, my thoughts are drifting back to that creepy fello who released me from the MJ12 facility, Daedelus. So far, I know he’s some kind of AI that has something to do with UNATCO and/or MJ12, more likely MJ12 considering I didn’t hear a peep from him until I was caught. Whenever I break into a security system, I don’t know if I’m going crazy or what, but I swear, I see its name. Like, when accessing a security computer, the text at the bottom of the login screen says something like:
Daedelus:GlobalNode:HUB//
Whatever is it, I don’t trust it. There’s something wrong with it, I’ll probably know later.
Also, I’m a bit nervous about my Hong Kong buddies. I’m probably overreacting, but the place is jam packed with alarm lights, and alarm buttons. I can’t help but wonder, if they’re there, does this mean at some point I could be setting them off? Or would I only have to worry about this if I’d stuck with UNATCO and came there to kill someone there? Lots of questions, no answers, not yet anyways.
For now, I’m off to the cemetery to meet with someone who knows more about the Gray Death.
I’m working my way through Paris, hanging in there, keeping busy. I could’ve sworn, when the helicopter carrying Nicollete and me left the bar area, I saw Gunther running underneath it. I started screaming “LEMME AT HIM!” but unfortunately, it had no effect on the game. I worked my way through the DuClare mansion, and had a heart attack when the MJ12 commanders showed up, but evidently my heart’s still beating.
I went through the cathedral in Paris, and tore most of its occupants – including Gunther to shreds. (Finally!! All the anticipation lead to one hell of a climax, that was a fuuun firefight! :ebil: ) I completely started freaking out when I was getting e-mails from Walter Simons, Icarus, and Bob Page, but I’m going to keep going. Not sure what to think about Everett. Don’t trust him any more than Tracer Tong does. He sounds too much like UNATCO. Ironic, it seems like my theory on Daedelus may not be all that inaccurate. Yay for me! I don’t like the way the mechanic was acting when I left, though.
I dealt with the situation at Vandenburg, and when Jock told me about the rattle in the control panel, I completely flipped out, and when the chopper took off, I kinda wanted to jump. Kinda really badly. Oh well, not like something like that can kill you.
I freed the young lady inside the gas station, then dealt with the situation, and the world class wimp Walter Simons, in the underwater base. I dealt with the missle silo, but almost had a heart attack in the process. When I was in the missile silo, and the doors closed, I honestly thought I was trapped, I was out of multi-tools. I made myself go back to the missile silo area again, and luckily found a ladder leading topside, guarded by a MIB who didn’t stand a chance against my sniper rifle. SPLAT! Now, onto Area 51. *cough* LAME KNOCKOFF *cough*
NO! Jock is dead?! I’m going to kill that son of a bitch mechanic who planted the bomb there. Not Jock, he was the only half decent guy in the whole game! Grrr.
But, I have decided for certain now, Everett is NOT on the good team. My reasons are:
1) He got me to do something which merged 2 AIs into one extremely powerful one, which Bob Page controls.
2) His mechanic planted a bomb on the chopper, which detonated barely a few seconds after I got off it.
Okay, I just cleared out the first level of the bunker. I took the turret near the entrance as my own, and let it deal with the ‘bots for me. When I saw the new Bob Page when he sent me a message, I kinda went  and took off when the bots came after me. Got the elevator online, though, down I go!
Made it through Sector 2, I explored the catwalks before entering, though. Hmmm. Everett wants me to join him? Maybe I’ll claim to join him then tear him apart with my shiny glowing blue sword. *evil laughter*
I wasn’t surprised that the elevator down to Sector 3 was a trap, I took one look at it and started searching for turrets. No turrets, I figured the button would activate a trap. I’m getting good at this!
Into Sector 3 I go!
I made my way through this place, and finally made up my mind about what I was going to do when I met with Helios. I was going to take out Bob Page first, but I said to hell with it, and merged myself with Helios. Seemed like the lesser of the evils, and besides, Helios had already started taking over, I might as well join in on the party.
Turns out Area 51 was really fun, not as tough as I would've liked, but I'm sure jacking the difficulty level would deal with that.
So, TheNightTerror has wrapped up the first of no doubt many runs through Deus Ex. Next course of action will be to complete the game again, and stay with UNATCO. When I find out about my brother being with the NSF, it won’t sway me, I’ll stay with UNATCO.
Good god this game is fun. :ebil: And I probably just grazed the surface of all the different things I could do in game, I could be an asshole to whoever I talk to, I could try out my GEP gun on Gunther the first time I see him, I could shoot myself in the foot with a LAW again . . .
:ebil:
This game's most definitely worth the $10 I paid for the game, and the $10 I paid when I accidently got the 'special limited' *cough* edition of the game. :):cheeky:

Jock can be saved! Just talk to Morgan about the mecanic a couple of times.
