There's a new speedrun on SDA for Deus Ex, a complete start to finish run of deus ex in 43:20. It's totally sick.

Some of the shortcuts he used are un-fucking-believable. This guy did vendenburg in about a minute.

Thanks for posting, this is even better than the 1:13 run I saw last year.
Every time I see a speed run for a game I want to replay it

Pretty cool. I'm still baffled at how he got out of the underwater lab window though...he just threw a LAM while standing next to it and that threw him outside? Is that all he had to do? Crazy.

I was amazed by the fact that, after jumping over the left comm building, he leapt straight through the wall behind it! :wot:
It's a great movie. I enjoy watching some of these "Done quick" movies. :D Last one I saw was for Half-Life 2, IIRC.
I'm so gonna try EMP/LAM jumping next time I play Deus Ex! :D
Thanks for the link Jashin. :thumb:

Just a question a bit out of topic : is LAM jumping a bug or a "feature" ?

I think LAM climbing is an intended feature, but I'm pretty sure Lam jumping is a physics bug.
Theres no way to know for sure unless your the lead programmer

I'm pretty sure no-one on the Deus Ex team intended for people to go climbing skyscrapers with LAMs. Just an oddity born from the fact that LAMs have physical bounding boxes, and that JC can stand on the smallest ledge.

Interestingly, grenadeclimbing doesn't seem to work with ALL grenades. I could never get it to work with scramble 'nades, for instance.
In fact, if you stand back and to the side from a LAM stuck to a wall, you'll notice it's actually hovering a good three inches in front of the wall, coz the collision isn't quite set up right. Fortuitous error, though!
And as for grenade jumping, that's just because the unreal engine doesn't seem to bother accounting for mass when "imparting velocity" if you're 'in mid air': it just adds it to yours.
Grenade bouncing up + JC mid-jump = JC superjump!
Same thing applies for grenadelevators: you can just hop on top of the nade as it falls, and it takes care of the physics for you. You hit the floor, you go splash..but if the grenade hits the floor, it bounces. If you're on top of the grenade, the grenades 'hitwall' event gets called before your 'landed' event, and you get to bounce off to safety.
What the video doesn't actually illustrate is how fucking HARD these tricks are to pull off. It's really, really impressive stuff.

"I gave it my best shot". Indeed.
Funny stuff. That glitching-yourself-thru-a-window-per-grenade thing works with Sam Carters room too. :cheeky:

The lan climbing is probably unintentional, but there's a strange easter egg in Hong Kong that can only be reached by lan climbing. Max Chen is standing on the top of a skyscraper in the downtown. It's quite surreal.
Edit - And by lan, I mean LAM.
