So true, Ff; I love just being there, wandering the city. Every time I play thru I discover things, little and big, that I hadn't noticed in the previous playthru. The achievements thing seems to have brought out the overly competitive part of my nature though, and I won't put paid to this game til I really feel like I've beaten it. HR is has turned out to be much more than I expected and hoped for. Havin' a great time in Detroit.

Heh, count me among the obsessed. :p
I started up another playthrough so that I could play around with the Whisperhead sniper rifle. First off, I think the first visit to the Detroit hub is probably my favorite part of the game... I just like being there. I think I've found just about everything there is to find in the hub, but I enjoy trying different approaches to things (like the mission in DRB territory). One thing I've noticed is that the game may place enemies in different spots in that area depending upon which routes you choose.
As for the Whisperhead... I like it. It's big, it's not as deadly as a ganked-up 10mm pistol (which is way, way OP, if you ask me), it doesn't penetrate armor and can't take damage upgrades, but it'll still one-shot any spec op besides an ogre, and any Belltower besides the heavy gunners. And of course, it's a sniper rifle, so it has tons of range, well beyond what you can reliably accomplish with the 10mm pistol. I'm about 2/3 of the way through FEMA right now, and I've been having a blast with it. It really shines in there, up on those catwalks. To me, it seems like a well balanced piece of equipment.
I just wish the game put it in Adam's apartment for you, instead of into your meager inventory right at the start of the factory mission. That's a bit awkward, if you don't plan on headshotting Purity First goons (who I usually leave alive, though probably unconscious).

I'm finding that I still choose stealth over rushing in balls-out into any situation. I like tucking myself away at a higher vantage point and having at the bad guys one by one with the sniper rifle or the tranq gun. My favorite part happened by accident when I was at the Hengsha docks up on top the roof of the warehouse/main office bldg. I discovered I could break one of the glass skylights and then proceeded to pick off the guards one at a time with the tranq gun. Every time a guard would rush to revive his tranqued buddy, I'd just nail him. I found myself wishing for more guards by the time I was done 'cuz I was having so much fun. Same thing at Panchea when you're being rushed by all the crazies: just find a perch and pick 'em off (again, I used the tranq gun since I really kind of felt sorry for them).

I'm pretty much always stealthy. That's just my preferred way of approaching DX. I'm only carrying one non-stealth weapon, and that's a revolver, and it's really only for bosses and certain other incidents that you get thrown into.
I remember the glass roof at the dock - I think I shot at it with my pistol once or twice, which didn't break it, so I assumed it was unbreakable and just there to torment me. I'll shoot at it more this time.
It's a shame that the last 2 bits after the dock aren't as much fun. Omega Ranch is... OK, there are some tricky patrols to get past around there, and at Panchaea, I usually found myself sneaking past the crazies as much as possible. Erecting a barricade or perching up high is definitely doable in most cases, but I tend to fret about running out of ammo. I know... kind of silly when I'm in the last zone, and I'm armed to the teeth, but I don't go lethal on the poor crazies either.

The first time I played I think I was still suffering the leftover effects of playing the Stalker games where stealth is pretty much a joke, so I tried to blast my way thru HR's first couple levels. The last two times thru stealth has been my reliable 'weapon of choice'. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty this time, but so far I really don't notice much of a difference. I managed to beat Barrett in relatively short time (which amazed me). Okay, well, it seems that this time the bad guys are able to kill me with fewer shots, but that's about all.

So where I can buy original game now?
Dia on 8/10/2011 at 17:59
You can either buy & download it on Steam, order it from Amazon, or just go to your nearest video game dealer & buy a retail copy.

Yay, finally getting around to playing DXHR. So far I am very impressed by the whole thing, it feels DX-y. I have a horrible suspicion that I've guessed most of the plot already which, given that I've only just taken out Barrett, would be a shame, but maybe it can still surprise me.
Barrett himself was horribly annoying for about ten minutes and then ludicrously easy for all of the three minutes it took to down him. I've heard that the second boss is much more difficult, so not looking forward to that.

No, 2nd boss tends to be much easier all things considered. Bring a PEPS and maybe an anti-electric-shock praxis upgrade.
