On topic: Studios buying the rights to make movies based on games happens a lot more often than those movies actually being made. I'll start anticipating/dreading this movie once we hear some details about who's writing/directing/starring in it. There's really no reason why movies based on games wouldn't work as well as those based on comic books. All it takes is someone who likes the game and has a strong vision about what part of the game's story might translate into a good movie-story.

Well, now that you mention, how many good comic book movies are there? I'm not really into comics, so the only thing that comes to my mind is Dark Knight. You might be tempted to reference some of these Avengers films, but the truth is that the only thing they really have going for them is humour. If that's not in, they hit anywhere between crap and mediocre.
Now, sure, with a proper team of film makers there's no reason a video game setting couldn't host an excellent movie. Adapted plot... maybe, but a lot trickier unless we're talking about a plain old "press X to cutscene" game. Sure, I'm simplifying here, but I'm nearly done at work and I'm trying to stay on the side of brevity.

If they make a Deus Ex movie that's as good as The Avengers, I will not complain.

The 2nd Hellboy flick is good. Not so much the first.

"Good" as in "we will first make several prequel movies introducting all the main characters and only then we will do the real movie because it's impossible to not fuck it up otherwise"?
