This is awesome :D
I've only recently found out about this project and I can't wait to play one of my favorite games in High Definition.
Keep up the good work.

Demo is out..
But ummm.. The readme says:
"MAKE SURE TO START DEUS EX AND NOT HDTP OR THE MAP WILL NOT OPEN"
That doesnt work since the demo map needs a package and it requires you to start the HDTP-version, or the map wont even open. Tried the demo map using the HDTP-exe and to me it looks just like before..

so umm... how is it? I don't have my DX cd to try it out and I've been wanting to try this out for a while.
Oh yeah... Post pics please! thanks.

Got it working, you had to move a file.. hmm dunno why they didnt write that in the readme, nubs... :cheeky:
It looks good i guess. The textures are cleaner and not so washed out, but nothing you will notice much when playing i think. Imo they shouldve put all their effort in upgrading the models, cause that's where this game has aged really bad and the characters are often in focus when you play. I could care less if the toilet texture or kitchen sink looks kinda bland in the original game ;)
Pictures are on their site.

I'm afraid I agree. The objects-only upgrade approach works really well for System Shock 2, because SS2 relies heavily on objects in its level design. Deus Ex, however, does not.
Additionally, many of DX's textures are already at the maximum 256x256 resolution, so there's few easy quality gains to be made there.
So yeah, since the game spends so much time shoving those low-res, low-poly characters in your face, upgrading them would provide the most noticeable improvement to the visual quality. Unfortunately, that's also the most difficult thing to upgrade, since it basically involves recreating the character model, textures, and animations from scratch. That's professional-level work, made even harder by the fact that we all know what these characters are supposed to look like.

They are upgrading everything, this is just a few things they did for a first release. No clue when they're going to release the final project.
edit: what file do you have to move and where?

yes i know they're making new models too, there's one in the demo. What i meant was that all that time they've used for the textures they could've put into making the models even better.
You have to move HDTPanim.utx from \DeusEx\HDTP\Textures\ into \DeusEx\Textures\

Ahh all right, and thanks.

One model? Last I checked there were around 100. Also, you can't just create a new model and slap the old texture on. Well, sometimes you can, but most of the time not. And if you have to redo the texture, why not redo it well?

What exactly are you advocating? Anyway, most DX object textures are not 256x256, and even then you can use more than one.
