Out of curiosity - have you ever been involved in a mod, Papy?
Worse... I was, for a very brief time, one of the admins for a video game league. So people directly asked for my help, and when I didn't do what they wanted me to do (for example if they didn't like my decision as an arbitrator), they would happily manifest their displeasure. I was called incompetent, megalomaniac, even paedophile. It never bothered me that much. I wasn't doing this in order to have some gratitude, but only because I loved the game.

You're still misunderstanding what I said then. People who mod do it because they love the game, but there is a certain level of respect that should come with that. Not "omg i luv what ur doing", but not being told by people that they hate your work. Not saying that they don't like it (particularly if it's constructive criticism).

I love the model artistically.
I hate the model as a representation of Gunther.
Fair enough?

Gunsmoke didn't do anything wrong in stating his opinion. Did the HDTP team work hard on the model? Yes. Does that invalidate someone's opinion of it? No.

Did I ever say it did? No. Have you read what I posted properly? No. Did I however say that he was being a dick? Yes.

No, I didn't misunderstood what you said. Respect is something someone feels for you, it doesn't come with anything. You may hope to be respected by some people because of what you do, but you should not think you deserve to be respected, no matter what you do.
I'd like to know... What did gunsmoke do to be a "dick"? If it is simply because he used the word "hate", then I don't understand your reaction. It is certainly his right to hate something and to say so without going into a lengthy discussion about the cause of his feeling.
If you politely asked him why he hates the model, and if he refused to answer you or insulted you, then you could have a point. But, based on what is written here, he only talked about his feeling and it was you who insulted him for feeling that way.

Well, yes you are. I'm not talking about respect in the manner you're thinking of (I've made this distinction many times), I'm talking about mutual respect that is common in, well, pretty much any circumstance. It's called having some manners, and not telling someone you hate their work when they've put a lot of effort into it. Maybe you don't have any or they're lower than what is typical, fine, but most would consider it insulting to have someone say they hate their work. Especially when they don't offer anything helpful, just "I hate it!".
But I see your point - basically, you're fine with him expressing his opinion, in however rude a manner, but then throw up a fuss when I express my opinion towards him. Surely, based on what you've said, it's my right to call someone a dick if that's how I feel. Heck, I've even expanded on the point. (

There is a difference between criticizing someone's work, and insulting that person directly. If I fail to producing quality work, it's perfectly ok to criticize my work, but it's not ok to insult me. Yes, the truth can be insulting, but someone hiding the truth is even more insulting to me. Personally, I prefer to be with someone harsh than with an hypocrite.
gunsmoke did express his opinion about someone's work, nothing more. He didn't say the author was a "dick". You, on the other hand, you don't hesitate to insult people.
I'm sorry, but you are the "dick" here. I think you should at least admit it present your excuses to gunsmoke.

"The work has been done, and they look incredible now. The installer will have an option to not install the updated characters. No problems :)"
So hopefully it will be an option in the next release to not install the updated characters.I personally prefer the original character models also.

And you've still managed to miss my point. Incredible! I'm fine with criticizing someone's work, as I have not complained about anyone else (including ZylonBane, which is quite suprising). It's not hiding the truth to say "I don't like it", it's not hiding the truth to say "I'm not a fan of it". Those are just more respectful ways of putting it, which is a point I've made clear many times. Clearly, you don't have the same idea of etiquette and manners as most people do. So be it, but don't act as if everyone shares the same ideas.
Also, I don't insult people unless they deserve it. If you want to be clear on distinctions between criticizing someone's work and them, if you look at what I posted before (well, you haven't seem to have done so up to this point - I don't know why you'd start now) - I actually said he was
ACTING like a dick. For your convenience:
"you don't have to be a dick about it."
"basically acting like a dick"
Had you however said I called him fucking stupid, you would be correct. Because I consider anyone without manners, such as yourself, 'fucking stupid'. :thumb:
Also Butters, I never agreed with him, I think the new models look great. And I called him a dick because of the disrespectful way he said it. If you're going to try and sum up the topic, at least be correct about it.
