Sort of like how Hideo Kojima won't make a MGS movie because there's too much story in each game, a movie would just be watered down and shallow.
An MGS1 movie would be easy to make, surely. How much time of cutscenes/codecs is there in that game? Certainly enough to fit in along with the action in less than two hours, I'd say. Yes?

Yeah you could, but you'd miss a lot of story depth. Wouldn't really matter because you'd keep all the best bits, but I think the real point with Kojima is that he'd rather spend time on a game than a movie. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who could mimmick his style, just a question of whether he'd let them.

Deus Ex: The Movie for now is just a far off speck in the dots of our imagination. It sounds like a great idea, and 2006? bah, ill be old by then
TheGreatGodPan on 10/2/2005 at 21:42
What do you guys think has a better chance: the Deus Ex movie, or Sam Raimi's "Shock" starring Bruce Cambell?
Matthew on 11/2/2005 at 09:18
Shock. The planned Xena and Brisco County cameos will clinch it.

Honestly, how many game to movies have went right?
Mario = crap
Mortal Combat = Dire
MK 2 = Pathetic attempt at film making
Res Ev = not that bad.
Res Ev 2 = ...
AVP = terrible, though the Directors cut is supposed to be better.
Ecks vs Sever = not bad if only cheap action is what you want.
I think Operation:Flashpoint is next.
Is there any possiblity that a DX movie will be made?....No. Would it have everything the fans want, probobly not. Lord of The Rings isn't a bad movie; fans of the book still hate it because it's not the way the saw it in their head while reading it.
Mini series? Anyone remember Highlander? or that travesty they made for Dune?
As for MGS1, Hideo said he wouldn't give away movie rights because of those that asked he felt were incapeable of making it work. Besides, the games are more like interactive movies, especially Sons of Liberty.
Although I would like to see a DX movie, I know it would only dissapoint. Our expectations would be far too high. I think we should just be happy with what we have.

That's the problem when taking something from one medium to another, it's near-impossible to keep what people saw in the original medium as special when transposing it. Books it's even worse because you are always filling in the blanks with what you think should be there - no matter how descriptive the writing is.

If they were commonplace here, I'd sig the shit out of that.

But it's funny. Surely that counts for something?

Not sure whether you mean you haven't seen Resident Evil 2 yet or you don't want to think about it...
I only saw the TV cut of the first. Was decent, as it wasn't trying to follow the original game at all.
You left out Double Dragon (Though I suppose that might've been based on the comics). :(

This comment confuses me (admittedly, not hard to do), because I thought most fans of the book loved it. At least, that's the impression I keep getting.
Regardless, that's not why I dislike the movie. I dislike it because of the changes/adds; the cuts I don't care as much about, as there's only so much time in a day/night cycle.

Mario was funny-ish, but c'mon, the rocket boots?
Res Ev 1 was ok because the first game and most of the sequels were supposed to be like B movies, remember the intro at the start? The movie recreated this feeling wether it was intentional or not
Res Ev 2. Milla Jovovich fighting nemisis barefist? Why would someone choose to remember such a thing? I heard she didn't really want to do that movie but because she was under contract...
I also forgot Tomb Raider, Street Fighter and Wing Commander. I hear Crazy Taxi and House of the Dead are also being made.
Regarding Lord of the Rings.
Slato says it better than me. Basically we all read books and picture the bits the author leaves out. While I appreciate the effort that went into production of LotR, when I watch it cheese drips off the screen. Had I not read the book several times beforehand I would probobly be rooting for the trilogy.
The Shining is commonly known as the most faithful transposition of book to film. Yet most people who read the book disliked the film, or rather the small things that were changed.

I'm taking that as a complement ;)
