Overly keen, friend, overly keen.

I had to do some research in the forum archives, but I finally found the answer. It's some sort of "Pseudo-Dionysus" hierarchy:

FYI, The hierachy
I Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones
II Dominions, Virtues, Powers
III Principalities, Archangels, Angels
Is from Dante's Divine Comedy. Paradisio. Its a great collection of works. Very informative as far as Catholic Dogma is concered. If you have read them you'll notice TONS of parallisms in real life, everything form government Hierachy's to the 10th cirlce of hell for total bastards (well The Onion made that one up), but the other nine are real. Well real as far as the story goes. I highly suggest you read them. Project gutenburg has them for free download. (

While we're on the subject of religion...
Aquinas protocol - St. Thomas Aquinas was (and still is) the most respected theologist of the catholic church.

Doh! reputing my original statement
about dominion not being in the heirarchy.
Also since that time I had a long conversation with strowd
like 10 mins of continually pressing him, until he actually
confirmed this fact.
However since strowd tells you this it can no longer be
and easter egg as it is actually an important point of the
gameplay :ebil:
Incidentally I have an antique copy of the entire
"Divine Comedy" it's about 160 Years old now and
Half Leather Bound. As to why I never new this
fact it's written in the original 13th Century Catelonian
and I dont even speak moderen Italian - and barely english. :)

I ran a search and didn't find anything about it in any DX forum, so I'l just add my 0.02€
When you get out of the MJ12 secret base, you have to meet with Alex, and if you hack/login into his computer, you find a message sent by "Rosy Cross" about the MJ12 and the Illuminati.
Which is funny, as if you read Umberto Eco's "Foucault's Pendulum", you know that there's another group similar to the Templars and the Illuminati, called the"Rosicrucian Order".
Found it yesterday, I just love the way this reference is inserted ingame. Quite clever. :)

"Rave on thy Holy Rosy Cross"
Rave On Don John - Van Morrisson - Inarticulate speech of the heart.
"The holy Blood, and the Holy Grail" by Michael Baigent Features a large history of these organisations and their aims. It's also very heretical for those not wanting to test their christianity.

Yea, I'm bringing this thread back from the dead, but hell, it's a fun read anyway. I just wanted to add my views on the classifications since I just finished the game.
The angelic hierarchy can be found in many places, for example, as PowerCrazy said, in Dante's The Divine Comedy. Speaking in terms of "in game," the hierarchy probably came from Bob Page's greatest inspiration, St. Thomas Aquinas. St. Thomas Aquanis himself got it from Dionysius as was said. You can find the hierarchy in St. Thomas Aquinas's Summa Theologica (I:108). (
http://www.newadvent.org/summa/110806.htm)
The classifications I managed to find in the game are the following:
Angel/0A
Archangel/1B
Principal/2C
Domination/5F
Throne/6G
Seraphic/8X
I guess one can assume that the missing classifications are Power/3D, Virtue/4E, and Cherubic/7H or something similar.
