Deus Ex Eggs/References. - by Eberon

Okay! Simply put, this thread is the second iteration of the popular-yet-often-deviating <a href="http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6579">"Deus Ex Easter Eggs?"</a> thread. Why has the original been closed? A number of reasons.
1. It was full of posts that I didn't feel like going through and weeding out, because some people had some interesting things to offer despite silliness and sometimes off-topic comments.
2. I have finally archived and collected all of the legitimate-sounding references from the many posts in that thread.
3. I wanted to open a more controlled environment for these things.
Many of you know from that thread that I had plans to compile these sightings. This I have done and will be bringing online within a day or two. As a result, we're starting anew in case anyone has anything else greatly significant to offer to the bin.
I'm all for having fun, but I do want to make one thing clear and known: <b>off-topic posts will be deleted without exception</b>. If you have something worthy to say, you'd better be sure it's appropriate for this discussion, or it's gone!
Everyone enjoy! I will most likely make an announcement at the header of this board; not only are we opening this new section, but we hope (time permitting between David and I) to have much more in store for you. Thanks again to all participants!

Did you get my one about Hippolyta Hall in the 'Ton hotel guest register being from the Sandman comicbook series?
(p.s - Please God don't delete me for this, but WOOHOO! I'm the first in a post! Hey hey hey! I got here before everyone! Yeah!)

And for those who simply can't seem to follow directions, what I said stands; <b>I will delete off-topic posts</b>. This thread is for the discussion of <i>easter eggs and media references spotted in Deus Ex</i>. If you have a problem with this, feel free to e-mail me. You all know where I can be contacted.
<I>(EDIT: Ahem. I should've been more clear. When I mention again that I plan to moderate this thread a little, I am not directing that at King Ronald. I had actually removed a totally off-topic post that someone jokingly left in this thread, and was addressing them and reaffirming my decision :) Much apology to those who thought I was flying off of the handle)</I>

I don't have a problem with you. And, sad to say, I don't even have a problem with you abusing your power of which you appear to be kinda fond of. But, nonetheless, I will try to make pointless indicising-and-erasing work as extensive as possible. Maybe, perchance, someday, you'll get my point.

I'm not really sure what kind of "abuse" of power you speak of when I would like and expect a moderated discussion of a topic which is particularly of interest to the betterment of one of TTLG's daughter sites. I really haven't interfered much at all with the forums, with the exception of the occasional thread-move to its proper place (usually from General Discussion to the spoilers forum when necessary).
As I said, if you have an issue with the way that things are handled around here, you're always free to discuss it with me either via private message or e-mail.

I hope you have archived the Hela reference somewhere (I've checked the original thread again and no-one has mentioned it there) prior to wiping the thread clean... It definitely doesn't sound like a coincidence and wouldn't be nice if it got omitted (for now, I'm sure someone would notice it again) as a result of a deletion spree.

There's no deletion spree! I just want people to stay relatively on-topic in this thread :) The other one had some sporadic deviations (how do I enable cheats, for one) that I'd like to try and avoid this time. And yes, I got the reference recorded, thanks!

Here it goes again :)
Facts:
* The MJ12 strike force in Paris catacombs is commandeered by agent Hela, as can be found out by reading almost any of their DataCubes.
* Hela's security password is Ragnarok; there are at least two places where you can learn it.
* The two troopers located in a side chamber close to the catacomb entrance talk, among other things, about how agent Hela feels comfortable underground and that "she's made herself a nest" in one of the big chambers (don't remember the exact quote).
Possible connection:
There is a female deity in Nordic mythology known as Hel or Hela: a goddess of death and ruler of the underworld. She is a daughter of Loki (a familiar name even to many people not connected with Nordic/Teutonic tradition), is often described as being half white, half black and possibly has coined in her name to the English word "hell"); if you want to know more just search for information on the 'net, there Viking-related materials have always been in abdundance there.
Another bit is the aforementioned password - a name of the Nordic equivalent of the Christian Judgement Day.

Echelon: The real-life (no, really) US/UK/Canadian/Australian/New Zealand government listening system that monitors all internet and telephone traffic for potentially anti-government work.
Daedalus: The father of Icarus, in Greek mythology who constructed the wings for him and his son to escape their prison with.
Icarus: The son of Daedalus, who flew too close to the sun, causing his death.
That is REALLY obvious, but i don't think anyone has said it so far.

Daedalus + Icarus ---> Helios = Greek for Sun
