300Mill sounds kinda... cheap?
Maybe we should pass the good ol' donation cup around, see if any of our members have a few spare mil lying around?

(I know that some people argue that
Dishonored already has
Deus Ex leanings in terms of the game mechanics, but that's a different discussion.)
Thief was a game about avoiding confrontation, Deus Ex and Dishonored are power fantasies where they give you a toolbox and some problems to fix and let you go at it. :D
I would absolutely love an Arkane-designed game with Thief-style gameplay though. Like a bigger budget Neon Struct or something.

None of the "World of Assassination trilogy" can be played offline, when they turn the servers off the game(s) will gone.
From everything I've read, it seems like all the main missions/locations can still be played offline.

Any item unlock progress and other statistics aren't recorded. Hitman 2016 was pulled from GOG for being heavily crippled by the live service DRM - it being there was antithetical to the web store's policies.

Stephane D'Astous has things to say about the EM sale as well as the development of the DX and Thief games, in (
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2022-07-26-square-enixs-western-studios-were-a-train-wreck-in-slow-motion) an interview with gameindustry.biz.
On Thief:
Quote:
The 2014 return of Thief was less well received -- although D'Astous says that game "remains one of my favourite projects" and maintains an extra nine months could have produced a much better product.
"We did our best, and we struggled, and that's life in development in games," he says. "You don't hit it off all the time. And we were close, but just missing some finishing touches."
He continues: "The Deus Ex development team was one of the strongest that I've assembled, and they were really united. They knew the challenges. With Thief, I didn't have that luxury to have a core group of people that had worked together previously, so I went to recruit strong people, very strong people, but they didn't have the opportunity to work together on previous games. And that maybe could be one of the reasons why it wasn't as smooth as Deus Ex."
He also has theories about the low sales price of EM:
Quote:
"If I read between the lines, Square Enix Japan was not as committed as we hoped initially. And there are rumours, obviously, that with all these activities of mergers and acquisitions, that Sony would really like to have Square Enix within their wheelhouse. I heard rumours that Sony said they're really interested in Square Enix Tokyo, but not the rest. So, I think [Square Enix CEO Yosuke] Matsuda-san put it like a garage sale."
So yeah, maybe they offloaded EM quickly and cheaply in order to get acquired by Sony sometime soon?

It says Eidos has multiple projects running. Possibly Thief is in the making.
