I heard Warren officially stated that there was going to be a Deus Ex 3, even after he left Ion Storm. Is that still the case? I don't think he meant Snowblind, although Crystal Dynamics really would seem to be the only one capable of continuing it for IP reasons (as a sidenote, if Ion was able to use the Thief IP, why is another Shock ruled out?). I hope Warren starts running a studio again, and I think IW would have gone better if he had taken a more active role.

It was "unofficially confirmed" (ie mentioned in an interview) soon after IW was released that DX3 was in the early stages of development. With Ion gone, we simply don't know what's going on with it now. Perhaps whatever they had done will be handed over to the consolidated Crystal Dynamics or something, but only time will tell.
If WS does wind up with his own studio, though, he presumably won't be able to make an actual DX sequel (unless he has Eidos' blessing, I suppose) but.. I dunno. Wait and see what announcements are forthcoming.

IIRC (and you'd really want to ask the Shock fans for a more detailed answer) the Shock franchise's status is indeterminate, the exact ownership unclear in the wake of LG's dissolution.

True. EA seems to own a big whack of the Shock IP, but with LG's bankruptcy/insolvency the title to the rest of the share of the IP apparently was divided between all of its creditors. Efforts have been made to track down the current IP owners, to no avail (though wouldn't that be a matter of obtaining a copy of the trustee in bankruptcy (or American equivalent)'s report and approaching all named creditors?).

Alright, Well let's do a little brain storming- assuming a Deus Ex three did happen somehow, and god willing I hope it does, what would you want it to be about? What time would it be set? Main Character, general plot ideas, driving forces, etc. Frankly I don't see how a very good sequel could be made- atleast one that kept true to the feel and essence of the games.
I'll go first, cause I've got nothin' else to do as of now 'cept copy thousands and thousands of songs (all legally gotten) and documents from this computer to my new one. Alright, I personally would like to see a bit of creative rewriting of the second one. I want a game where you rather then molding all three endings into one. The player makes the choice and the game continues from there, playing as JC. The game could even read information from the first game (if you have it installed) as to whether you saved paul, the Renton's, etc. In this model you would have three mini-games, perhaps the length of IW or a little longer, cause let's face it, IW was a short game. You take the helm of a world in sear ruins and it's up to you to put it back together- or tear it apart. I think options made on previous levels affecting later missions would also be much perferable to the whole; "only the last level matters" of the first two. Plus it would add to replayability. So that's my two sense on the matter. I can post more indepth details on actual plot later if anyone wants to hear it- as for now, I leave the floor open to you- the dedicated fans of Deus Ex.

Dear God, was that what that was? No wonder I had to wash my hands after every play session... and not for the reasons I had to because of Deus Ex 1...

This is what I said about Deus Ex Three back before IW came out:
What about a Deus Ex game set in the years surrounding the millennium? A prequel. In this MJ12 is still loyal to the Illuminati, the Templars are still strong, and the war is truly invisible. We lived through those years, and we didn’t notice any power struggle.
The time is ripe for conquest, the dominate religion of the world is reaching a milestone, people are ready for the coming. The Templars have whatever they’ve got, the Illuminati has the Priory of Zion, the descendants of Jesus himself, or so they claim. The Illuminati also controls the region where the signs of the apocalypse are meant to appear. At long last the unified European currency is coming (or here depending on just when it is set.)
With the right political, religious, and economic moves the world can be taken.
Only a small group labeled as paranoids can stop it, or help it, it’s up to them. Do you join, expose the truth? Maybe you start to create rifts in the groups, a failed attempt might eventually lead to the MJ12 Illuminati split.
The climate is different, there are no bots, no transgenics, except for grays that are stillborn, no bots, the US is controlled by the Illuminati, and there are no fancy weapons, just what there was at the time. No augmentations, the first MiBs are coming out if they are anything more than human at this point at all.
A skills system might be training (not in game) that you can do between missions.
In the end you would have choices. Do you expose the truth, help the conquest of the world, or do you leave the war invisible, events happen as we remember them, secret societies stay in the shadows, the unseen conquest stays undone.
Other than the fact I that said "no bots" twice I still think that is a good description of what Deus Ex 3 should be.
